AC Milan vs PSG Tip 1: Can injury-hit AC Milan keep PSG at bay?

After two draws, one defeat and no goals scored it’s ‘win or die’ for AC Milan.

The Rossoneri are, alongside Benfica, the only team yet to celebrate a goal after 270 minutes of Champions League football and never gave the impression they could get something out of the Parc de Princes two weeks ago.

Yet AC Milan had a couple of half-chances in the first half when the result was still 0-0, but overall looked disjointed and too far apart on the pitch.

So far, AC Milan have had 50 attempts in three Champions League matches (14 on target, three more than their French rivals), but lacked composure and calm in front of goal.

They’ve become the first Italian team to not score a goal in five consecutive Champions League games. A negative record they must end on Tuesday against the French champions, who have kept six clean sheets in 13 games so far.

AC Milan’s main man, Rafael Leao, has attracted criticism for failing to leave his mark, once again, in games that matter.

Furthermore, Stefano Pioli’s men’s record against big teams this season is far from impressive: two wins (2-1 against Roma and 2-0 vs Lazio), three draws (two scoreless draws against Newcastle and Borussia and 2-2 vs Napoli) and three defeats (5-1 vs Inter and 1-0 vs Juventus and 3-0 in Paris).

AC Milan vs PSG Tip 2: The Parisians to edge it in Milano

This is a must-win fixture for the Rossoneri if they want to cultivate hopes of qualifying for the knockout round. On the other hand, the Parisians seemed to have found form: three points in Milano will all but secure their qualification with two games to spare.

The nervousness around the AC Milan camp is palpable as manager Pioli has been on the receiving end of complaints from his own players because of some of his substitutions and fans. Not long ago, the 58-year-old was ‘on fire’, as the famous chant goes, but now, many suggest, he’s only a couple of defeats away from being fired.

Can injury-hit AC Milan keep PSG at bay? Surprisingly, the hosts’ defensive record is better than the visitors’ one (seven clean sheets in 13 games so far for AC Milan), but PSG have only failed to score twice all season.

AC Milan vs PSG Tip 3: Mbappe to add to 42-goal Champions League haul

Kylian loves to play against Italian sides: the goal against AC Milan in Paris was his eighth contribution (five goals and three assists) in eight games against Serie A clubs.

He has already scored 12 goals in all competitions this season, failing to find the net on only four occasions. Mbappe’s Champions League numbers are impressive: he has scored 42 goals in 64 appearances since his debut with Monaco in 2016/17.

The France striker is already joint 14th in the list of all-time Champions League scorers (excluding qualifying) and only six goals behind Zlatan Ibrahimović and Andriy Shevchenko in the top ten. Unlike the aforementioned Leao, Mbappe scores a lot and, often, on big nights. In fact, he has failed to score against only five of the 23 teams he has played against in this competition: Atalanta, CSKA Moskva, Leverkusen, Napoli and Newcastle.

His goals are equally split between the first and second halves, but the Frenchman know how to leave his mark early: he has got into the scoresheet in the third minute of Champions League games three times (against Anderlecht, Bayern and Dortmund) and eight – or 20% – of his goals have come in the first ten minutes of matches.

AC Milan only have two centre-backs fully fit to play (Thiaw and Tomori), so if they were to get an early yellow card, as Thiaw did in Paris after four minutes, it would be even more difficult to try to contain Mbappe’s peace.

On the other hand, Luis Enrique seems to have found the right balance with his attacking 4-3-3 formation, helped by the great work in midfield by Ugarte, Vitinha and Zaire-Emery.

AC Milan vs PSG Team News: Understrength Rossoneri need an epic win

Ruben Loftus-Cheek should be available after playing against Udinese over the weekend. But AC Milan have several issues with injuries and will be without Samuel Chukuweze and Pierre Kalulu.

Centre-back Simon Kjaer will be assessed closer to the game as well as Christian Pulisic, whereas second-choice goalkeeper Marco Sportiello, Marco Pellegrino and Ismail Bennacer will be sidelined for a couple of weeks more.

“I am worried, but our Champions League campaign is far from over,” said AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli after their 3-0 defeat.

“We played very well in the first half, but then we missed too many key passes. PSG were extremely clinical.”
Marco Asensio has resumed training with PSG and will be available; the Spaniard has not played since 3 September. Nuno Mendes, Presnel Kimpembe and Sergio Rico will all miss out.

AC Milan vs PSG OPTA Stats: Parisians now warming up against Italian sides

  • Milan are winless and have failed to score in their last two UEFA Champions League home games, losing to  Internazionale in last season’s semi-final (0-2) and drawing 0-0 with Newcastle last time out. They have never  previously failed to score in three consecutive home games in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League.
  • Milan’s Rafael Leão has attempted more take-ons following a ball carry (moving 5+ metres with the ball)
than any other player in the UEFA Champions League this season (15).
  • PSG’s 17-year-old Warren Zaïre-Emery has provided more assists than any other player in the UEFA
Champions League this season (3). He’s also the first player to provide as many as three assists in the
    competition before turning 18.
  • Having won just two of their first 20 meetings with Italian sides in all competitions (D9 L9), Paris Saint-
Germain have now won their last four against Serie A opponents.
  • Milan’s 3-0 loss in the reverse fixture was their first ever defeat against Paris Saint-Germain, having won two
and drawn two of their first four meetings.
