Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk Odds: Odds Shift Following Ngannou Bout
With promotional clashes, purse split arguments, and a whole host of other reasons from the business of boxing getting in the way, undisputed matchups don’t come along often, especially in the heavyweight division.
On Saturday 17th February, Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury (33-0-1, 24KO) will face off against Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14KO) in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, where one man will be crowned the undeniable, undebatable, undisputed, heavyweight king for the first time since Lennox Lewis in 1999.
Prior to Fury’s controversial clash with Francis Ngannou in Riyadh in October, the bookmakers had Fury as a strong favourite. The Gypsy King is still the favourite, but it is clear that confidence has waned and the odds are looking a little tighter now.

In boxing, the saying “a good big one beats a good little one” often proves true. Early odds from the UK’s top bookmakers reflect this sentiment with every bookmaker making Fury the outright favourite. Prior to Fury’s meeting with Francis Ngannou, PaddyPower and Betfair both believed the fight would go the distance (1.36 in October) and nothing has changed.
While Usyk is not a small man at 6’3 and 220lbs, he pales in comparison to Fury, who stands at 6’9 and will enter the ring weight over 260lbs. A six inch height difference, a seven inch reach advantage, and a 40lb weight disparity are significant factors, especially considering Fury’s impressive agility for a man of his stature.

Tyson Fury Stats & Form – Last Five Fights
Opponent | Result | Method |
---|---|---|
Francis Ngannou | W | Split Decision |
Derek Chisora | W | TKO-10 |
Dillian Whyte | W | TKO-6 |
Deontay Wilder | W | KO-11 |
Deontay Wilder | W | TKO-7 |
Tyson Fury enters this undisputed clash with just a single blemish on his record, the controversial draw with Deontay Wilder following a three-year hiatus from the sport. Since then, Fury has avenged that loss twice, emphatically stopping Deontay Wilder, the division’s most fearsome puncher, both times.
Since working with SugarHill Steward at Detroit’s renowned Kronk gym, Fury has reestablished himself as a power puncher, winning his last four fights by knockout, taking him to KO% of 73% in all fights.
Fury’s recent record suggests a KO is a real possibility here. Realistically, Usyk is levels above any of Fury’s previous opponents and he won’t be an easy target. It will take something special for Fury to stop a man who has never been knocked down in his professional career, aside from a controversial low blow against Dubois.
Olexandr Usyk Stats & Form – Last Five Fights
Opponent | Result | Method |
---|---|---|
Daniel Dubois | W | KO-9 |
Anthony Joshua | W | Split Decision |
Anthony Joshua | W | Unanimous Decision |
Derek Chisora | W | Unanimous Decision |
Chazz Witherspoon | W | Retired – 7 |
Oleksandr Usyk may lack the physical stature of Tyson Fury, but the Ukrainian comes into this fight with three of the four major belts (IBF, WBA, and WBO), and is looking to complete the set with the WBC. Unlike Fury’s record, Usyk’s is without blemish or scar, with no previous opponent having enough to topple the southpaw.
Usyk’s record speaks for itself in many ways, but what the P4P great may lack in heavyweight power, he more than makes up for with a skillset and fluidity that most heavyweights can only dream of. Usyk may be in the land of giants, but his brain often outperforms brawn, and the fleet-footed Ukrainian will hope his skillset, strategy, and ring IQ will guide him to triumph over the Gypsy King.
Usyk will surely take some heart though from comments made by Fury speaking to Joe Rogan when he said “[Steve] Cunningham was the hardest fight I ever did have in my whole career, amateur or professional. The reason being, he was very slippery. I couldn’t pin him down. He was a cruiserweight champion of the world” – Maybe, just maybe, Usyk, of very similar build to Cunningham and certainly more elusive, may just pose enough of a challenge for the Gypsy King.
