San Diego State Aztecs vs Nevada Wolf Pack Picks: January 17 Preview, Betting Odds and NCAAB Picks
IMAGO / USA TODAY Network The Nevada Wolf Pack mascot during the first half against the Texas Longhorns.

Sticking with the Mountain West Conference, our resident college hoops expert Ej Garr is excited to watch and make a little wager on the San Diego State vs Nevada game on Wednesday night. Ej will commonly be seen discussing games from the MWC, and he expects one hell of a battle to take place at Viejas Arena.

Both the Aztecs and Wolf Pack are coming off conference losses, and neither can afford another loss as they hold spots in the top-4 of the standings entering this affair. The line setters are dishing out another handful of points to put in our pockets for this big conference game out west, so let’s get to it!

SAN DIEGO STATE AZTECS VS NEVADA WOLF PACK PICKS

That says +6! As you all know, and if you don’t you will come to know, I always have my hand in the Mountain West Conference because I watch many of these games even though I live in New York. Luckily, we live in a generation where ESPN+, Fox, CBS, and others are out there to take in plenty of contests, and I am not missing a minute of this game.

It sucks for me that tip-off is at 11 PM ET, however, and I will be watching the Utah State vs New Mexico game soon on FS1. I gave out Utah State +5 for that game yesterday, and I won’t know the result of that before this article is finished so let’s hope I hit it!

Anyway, okay let’s get to the game, and what a game this is going to be. There are a boatload of high-profile games on the board tonight too, but I usually start at the bottom and I never made it past the last game of the night as I did yesterday.

Both of these teams were cruising going into their last games, as they each were carrying 7-game win streaks before picking up losses coming into this affair. Nevada jumped out to a 2 – 0 start in MWC play with wins over Fresno State and Air Force, but this past weekend the Boise State Broncos handed the Wolf Pack an 8-point loss.

Nevada almost matched their season-low output with only 56 points in the loss to the Broncos (vs Drake on Dec 9; 53 Pts), bringing their ranking down to 115th in the country in scoring with 77.1 PPG. If you don’t know much about the Wolf Pack this season, let me tell you what you can expect to see tonight.

The Wolf Pack tries to control the game, limit turnovers, and use their defensive steals and rebounds which is why they rank 20th in the nation allowing only 63.3 PPG. Jarod Lucas is a stud among men, as he has averaged double-digits in scoring in each of the last four seasons.
This is his second campaign with Nevada after three years with Oregon State, and he has quite a partner playing next to him at guard.

Kenan Blackshear is also playing in his fifth campaign, and his third with the Wolf Pack this year. Notice that the two of them lead this Wolf Pack squad putting up 17.4 and 16.5 points respectfully, and they can be thrown into the conversation of the best backcourts in the country.

Give me all of that experience for a team that needs to rebound from a loss with two guards who can bring everyone together and help them get back on track. The 6 points from the line setters is a gift as far as I am concerned, so when you wake up in the morning you will have your money waiting for you! Think Dog!

Let’s go with a call of 70 – 67, and if the outright upset comes our way I won’t be the guy shocked by it!
