NCAA Basketball Saturday Best Bets: A Touch of Madness
NCAA BASKETBALL December MADNESS BEST BETS: SATURDAY, December 17th
It takes a touch of madness to be an NCAA Basketball tipster, but luckily we have Ej here filtering through over 100 games on Saturday to bring us a pair of solid plays. Our resident hoops pundit just reeled off a 5 – 0 NHL hockey week, so let’s see if he can carry it over to the hardwood. It looks like he has the state of Indiana covered this weekend, so let’s take it to court… All rise!

Kansas Jayhawks vs Indiana Hoosiers Preview
December 17, 17:00 (UK time)
This court is in session, so let’s have you sit down and prepare to take the court on Saturday here in the States. I have over 100 games to filter through, and the two affairs I am previewing are involving teams from Indiana that are both away from home.
.First of all, let’s start in Lawrence, Kansas. The Jayhawks are playing host to the Hoosiers in what is essentially the first game of the day with a high-noon ET tipoff time. Keep in mind, that will be 11 am local time for these kids on a Saturday morning, which is not something they are accustomed to doing. As you know, during the week no games start before 7 ET for the most part, so getting ready for early games takes a little different preparation.
I personally love early morning unders, but 142 seems like a reachable number, and I believe it will be because of what Kansas does to this Hoosier team. This is a beatdown that is coming, and I don’t know who watched that Kansas / Missouri game, but did you see Bill Self’s face throughout the game? I mean, if you are into intensity and intimidation, that dude would have ripped your heart out with one look from the sidelines against Mizzou. I don’t think I need to tell anyone how his emotions take over, and when they do it firest up his kids to no end. Even I was pissed off and gritting my teeth just from some of the looks he was dishing out to give his guys a message. That message was… MISSOURI WILL NO LONGER BE UNDEFEATED WHEN WE LEAVE THIS BUILDING.
Yeah, it worked, and now that is what they are carrying over into this game against an Indiana outfit that is about to get manhandled. Oh, please, don’t think I am simply disrespecting the Hoosiers, thanks. I know this is a good team but I also watched them lose to both Rutgers and Arizona, and the Wildcats made them look pretty bad.
All I see is -3.5 with the first-half handicap riding Kansas at home, and if they don’t match that intensity they just showed against Mizzou, you don’t want to be that kid right now!
Kansas Jayhawks vs Indiana Hoosiers Best Bet
You fade Kansas because it won’t be! My god, when Bill Self wants his team to go out and play big, they play big. Losing to Arizona last time out doesn’t help bring a lick of momentum in Lawrence, and Coach Self will remind them of that, make no mistake about it.
- Selection: Kansas 1st Half -3.5
- Best odds: 2.00 (Pinnacle)
- Stakes 4/10

Duquesne Dukes vs Indiana State Sycamores Preview
December 17, 19:00 (UK time)
The Dukes and Sycamores will tip off at 2 PM ET at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse, and the line setters seemed to forget that these two teams can score. When I saw any number lower than 150 on this total, I stopped scrolling down and knew we had our gem.
If 148.5 is all they are asking for us to decide on, take your gavel, drop it down, and yell out SOLD! Hey, we went from a Judge’s chamber to an auction in one article, HA!
Seriously though, do I need to point out to you that the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles just dumped 88 points against the Sycamores in their last outing? Holy Madness, Batman! Southern Indiana? It may have taken a little overtime to get there, but Indiana State and defence have zero in common. In fact, both teams are right next to each other in the defensive rankings surrendering 70 -7 & 70.8 PPG. The Dukes’ defence ranks 331st guarding the 3-ball, and Indiana State doesn’t exactly do a much better job guarding the arc either (240th).
If you like your trends, the Over is 7-3 in the Sycamores’ last 10 road games, and their Over is 9-3 in their last 12 games following a loss. The Over is 20-8 in the Dukes’ last 28 games following a cover of the handicap, and all of that is just math, mate!
Listen, as long as the 3s are dropping and both teams continue to struggle to defend the rim, 148.5 seems like an easy proposition to me. When I envision this final score I see a race to 78, and they will both fight to get there.
Dae Dae Grant is shooting 43.6% from behind the arc this campaign, and I do see that Tevin Brewer is questionable to play for the Dukes today. Brewer is putting up an obnoxious 46.2% from distance, so I hope he only misses one game and returns to the court tonight. We could use that strong support from behind the arc today, knowing that neither team can guard anything out there.
Duquesne Dukes vs Indiana State Sycamores Best Bet
Duquesne will likely find a way to win this game at home, but that -3 doesn’t scream ‘convincing’ to me. It is because this game will come down to the wire and we might even see some extra hoops if they go to overtime. Either the last shot drops or we will need an extra frame to decide the winner, so let them play!
- Selection: Over 148.5 Points
- Best odds: 1.95 (Unibet)
- Stakes 4/10
