DENVER NUGGETS VS LOS ANGELES LAKERS
Wed, Oct 25. 00:30 (UK time)
Austin Reaves cleared this points line in the Lakers’ final seven Playoff games, including a productive series against these Nuggets. Reaves easily passed this in all four Conference Finals games, which featured three games in the low twenties in scoring.
While Reaves’ minutes will be lower in a regular-season contest, and with Darvin Ham surely wary of overexerting him after the World Cup, this line still seems far too low. If anything, look for Reaves to have a bigger offensive role during the 82-game slog after he showed what he was capable of during the Playoffs.
Reaves had 15 or more points in six of his last seven regular-season games in 2022-23. The Lakers are happy putting the ball in his hands, and he’s proven to be more than a solid outside shooter, meaning he’s an effective floor spacer around LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
It looks like the books have been a bit too cautious with this number. Yes, Gabe Vincent, D’Angelo Russell and others will get shots up, but Reaves is clearly the Lakers’ third option, and he can have some joy against a Denver defence which will be focused on the two big-name stars.
GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS VS PHOENIX SUNS
Wed, Oct 25. 03:00 (UK time)
Steph Curry averaged 6.3 assists per game last season, with 11 potential assists per game putting him ahead of Jamal Murray, Devin Booker and Jimmy Butler. Curry is expected to play off-ball more alongside Chris Paul, but the two-time MVP is going to have plenty of possessions as the ball handler, particularly with Draymond Green listed as questionable.
There’s a decent chance Green doesn’t play. If he does, he may well be on a minutes restriction, leaving more time for Curry to run the offence. Playing with Paul might hamper Curry’s ability to get assists, but the pressure sent by the Suns will still open up opportunities for dimes.
Curry had six or more assists in 33 of his 56 regular-season outings last term. The Suns are an offence-first team, who could struggle to keep this Warriors team under control. If they have to resort to trapping or doubling Curry, he could easily get into double-digit assists. There’s great value here.
