Euroleague Week 4 Expert Picks: 19th October, 2023

  • Fenerbahce -8.5 at 1.50 odds
  • Partizan +9.5 at 1.52 odds
  • Real Madrid -4.5 at 1.61 odds

Fenerbahce vs Lyon-Villeurbanne: The Legend Continue Their Fine Form

Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul rebounded from last week’s narrow loss to Valencia Basket with a convincing 83-69 victory over Panathinaikos Athens in Round 3. The hosts controlled the game, securing their second win of the season with a 2-1 record.

Georgios Papagiannis, facing his former team for the first time since leaving Panathinaikos, led Fenerbahce to victory with a team-high 15 points, including 3/4 from beyond the arc. Motley contributed 14 points, while Guduric and Calathes each added 12 each. Guduric was flawless, going 2-for-2 on triples, three-pointers, and free throws, achieving a 22 PIR.

On the other hand, Anadolu Efes handed ASVEL their third consecutive loss, defeating them 89-84 at the Sinan Erdem Dome. ASVEL remains winless in 16 EuroLeague games dating back to last season. Despite Nando De Colo’s 25 points and Mike Scott’s 15, it wasn’t enough to secure a win. ASVEL has won only one of their last seven games across all competitions and remains without a point in their last four away games.

In addition, Fenerbahce has a strong track record against ASVEL, having won four out of their five encounters. Their victories have often been by significant margins, with winning margins ranging from 9 to 22 points. Clear indications now show that Fenerbahce is likely to continue its dominance over ASVEL.

  • Expert Pick: Fenerbahce -8.5
  • Best odds: 1.50
  • Bookmaker: Betvictor
  • Stakes: 6/10

Olympiacos vs Partizan: Can Partizan Add to Oly’s Woes?

Olympiacos faced challenges during their first EuroLeague away games, resulting in a 65-53 loss to Milano. Offensive struggles plagued Olympiacos, with some players missing and others underperforming.

After three closely contested quarters, Olympiakos was leading 32-31 at halftime but trailed 44-41 after the third quarter. Milano opened up a nine-point lead (56-47) with two minutes remaining, leaving Olympiakos with little chance. Nikola Milutinov scored 15 points, and Thomas Walkup contributed 11 for Olympiakos. Olympiakos holds a 1-2 record in the first three EuroLeague games.

Moreover, injuries continue to plague Oly, with Panagiotis Tsamis out until mid-November and Shaquielle McKissic sidelined for at least three weeks due to a leg injury. Nigel Williams-Goss is also uncertain for upcoming matches.

On the other hand, Partizan faced an undefeated FC Barcelona in their last match, resulting in an 83-92 loss at Stark Arena. Partizan’s record dropped to 1-2. James Nunnally led Partizan with 14 points, while P.J. Dozier added 13, Zach LeDay scored 12, and Kevin Punter and Avramovic each had 11 points.

Given Olympiacos’ injury concerns and current drop in form, there is a possibility they may encounter difficulties in this clash. Therefore, backing Partizan, who have been efficient in front of the net, to secure a win in this encounter seems reasonable.

  • Expert Pick: Partizan +9.5
  • Best odds: 1.52
  • Bookmaker: Betvictor
  • Stakes: 3/10

Real Madrid vs Milano: Routine Win for the Defending Champions

Real Madrid extended their impressive unbeaten run with a convincing 93-79 victory over Zalgiris, bringing their overall record to 3-0 in the Euroleague and 11-0 in all competitions. Facu Campazzo led the way with 9 assists, while Gabriel Deck and Vincent Poirier contributed 19 and 18 points, respectively.

Real Madrid dominated the game after the first seven minutes, leading 44-30 in the second period before Zalgiris narrowed the gap to 53-43 at halftime and 55-52. However, the defending champions pulled away again, closing the third quarter at 72-62 and maintaining a comfortable lead for the rest of the game.

Real Madrid is undoubtedly a formidable team in the Euroleague, and they are well on their way to another championship with their strong mentality and skilled players.

Meanwhile, EA7 Emporio Armani Milan secured their first win of the 2023-24 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season with a 65-53 victory over Olympiacos Piraeus. Milan’s record now stands at 1-1 in the Euroleague. Nikola Mirotic was the top scorer for Milan with 20 points, while Kevin Pangos added 16, and Shavon Shields contributed 12 points.

The game remained closely contested for three quarters, but Milano seized control in the final eight minutes of the fourth. Despite Olympiacos briefly taking a 44-45 lead with 8:49 left in the game, Milano responded with a 9-0 run, including a three-pointer by Kevin Pangos. Nikola Mirotic and Nicolo Melli each knocked down a triple to complete a 16-2 run, and Milan maintained their lead to secure the victory.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid is expected to have an easy run against Milano, given their strong form and their history of winning the last four games against the Italian side.

  • Expert Pick: Real Madrid -4.5
  • Best odds: 1.61
  • Bookmaker: Betvictor
  • Stakes: 8/10
