Crvena Zvezda vs Lyon Villeurbanne Expert Tip
One of the teams that is contending for the playoffs will face one of the teams that is a candidate to be the worst teams in the league. While Crvena Zvezda upgraded most of their roster, Asvel tried to improve, but the issue for them was French taxes. Crvena Zvezda was always a much stronger home team, and they will also have the advantage of being more rested, as Lyon played against Saint Quentin on Tuesday. We expect Zevzda to use their home advantage and start off their Euroleague campaign in style, covering the -8.5-point handicap.
Crvena zvezda Stats and Form
Crvena Zvezda started their season with a convincing win against Igokea. They managed to win that game without some of their key players: Dejan Davidovac, Adam Hanga, and Shabazz Napier were out. They all should play against Lyon. While their preparations weren’t great (the biggest issue was defence), they also were not complete in most of these games and played most of the games away.
They lost to Sassari, won against Alba Berlin, and then went on a losing streak. First, it was a defeat against Bayern. Crvena Zvezda held a lead for almost the whole game, but they lost the game in the fourth quarter. Their next defeat was in an overtime thriller against Maccabi Tel Aviv. Their most recent defeat was against Zalgiris, in a game in which Crvena Zvezda almost managed to pull off a comeback.
The roster is much better than last year’s, with much more depth at the guard position. Napier was one of the best scorers last season, while the addition of Teodosic will be great because of his flexibility (he can play both shooting guard and point guard). Adam Hanga isn’t a spectacular offensive player, but he performed great in the preseason.
Lyon Villeurbanne Stats and Form
France Pro A started earlier than the ABA league, so Lyon played more competitive matches. They are currently 3-1 in their domestic competition, with their only defeat being against Monaco at home. In preparation games, the only Euroleague-level opponent they played was Milano, and they lost by 78-95.
When we compare their roster to the last year’s, it isn’t clear whether are they better, but they still should be one of the worst teams in the Euroleague. Their depth is lacklustre, their domestic players aren’t anything special except Lauvergne and Nando De Colo. Also, a huge factor will be that they played a game on Monday in Saint-Quentin, and then had to travel again to Belgrade.
Crvena Zvezda vs Lyon Villeurbanne H2H
Last season, Crvena Zvezda won both games against Lyon. In Belgrade, it was close, 71-67, while in France, Lyon got demolished by 60-76. Overall, their H2H record is 5-3 in Crvena Zvezda’s favour.
