Chicago Bulls vs Washington Wizards Best Bet: Wednesday, December 7th

The 11-13 Washington Wizards are in Chicago to face the 9-14 Bulls. Both teams enter this game in something of a slump, with the Wiz on a 1-6 slide and the Bulls going 3-8 over their last 11 games. Neither of these teams have realistic title aspirations, but they will both believe they can compete for the upper Play-In spots.

Washington has already beaten the Bulls once this season, running out two-point victors on October 21st. They are 5.5-point underdogs for this game, however, with Bradley Beal, Delon Wright and Rui Hachimura all sidelined. Lonzo Ball is the only guaranteed absentee for Chicago. Alex Caruso and Javonte Green are each listed as day-to-day.

On a surface level, this looks like a good game to back the Bulls. They are 5-5 against the spread at home, and the Wizards are only 4-5-2 ATS on the road. Washington is 5-5-2 as an underdog this season, though, and while both teams have a 3-7 record over the last 10, their -1.9 net rating is considerably stronger than Chicago’s -5.6 mark.

Both defences have been poor over that period, ranking in the bottom 10 in the league. The Wizards’ offence has continued to produce. Chicago’s has not – they are 25th in offensive rating over that period.

This Chicago team looks like its offence should be near-elite on paper. DeMar DeRozan has been slumping of late, though, and Zach LaVine has been inconsistent this season. Production from elsewhere on the roster is hit and miss at best.

The Wiz are not stacked with top-end talent, yet this is still their deepest roster in years. Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma can cover some of Beal’s offensive workload. Will Barton has started the season poorly, but he’s bound to break out of this rut sooner rather than later. Corey Kispert, Deni Avdija and Monte Morris are all good options.

There is a simple numerical problem for Chicago, who are in the bottom 10 in threes shot and allowed. Washington is happy to give up mid-range shots, which could be a bad formula here, but they do a good job on the glass and don’t foul a huge amount.

Chicago Bulls vs Washington Wizards Best Bet

Aside from the slip up against the Hornets, the Wizards’ losses lately have been against superior, more talented teams. Some would argue Chicago fall into that category without Beal, but there is hardly a chasm between these rosters. Washington has stayed competitive even in their losses.

Since November 2nd, the Bulls have just three wins by more than six points. It is unclear what the future holds for Chicago, and while they have the offensive firepower to win this at a canter, we have no confidence in them at the moment.
