While he is also Canada’s best scorer, Shai is focused on doing everything so Canada wins. He is Canada’s main playmaker and currently averages 5.8 assists in the tournament. The average would be higher, but Canada shot really poorly against Brazil so Shai had just 2 assists.
In all other games, Shai had these numbers: 6 vs. France, 5 vs Lebanon in a huge blowout, 6 vs Latvia, and 7 vs Spain. He played 37 minutes against Spain, and that should be the case in a do-or-die game against Slovenia.
The Slovenian defence isn’t good, they don’t have anyone that can contain Shai 1v1 so we could see doubling on him from Brooks and Barrett, who aren’t really good shooters. That will lead Shai to rack up some assists.
Luka Doncic under 29.5 points
Yes, Luka is a clutch player, but Canada is the toughest challenge he will face for now in the tournament. And Luka only went over this line against Georgia and Venezuela. In other games, he wasn’t even close: 19 vs Australia, 23 against Germany, and 19 against Cape Verde.
Canada has Dillon Brooks, and Luka hasn’t played well in the NBA against him. Doncic averages just 22.4 points against Dillon in his NBA career, and in all 5 games he had under 29.5 points. Even if Brooks won’t be able to guard Luka 1v1, Slovenia has several players from which help defence should be easy.
Also, another huge factor is Canada picking Luka at defence, which could lead to Luka being in foul trouble. Luka’s line seems just too high, even though he will have a huge number of shots.
