The Boston Celtics and Miami Heat matchup in TD Garden on Thursday night for Game Five of the Eastern Conference Finals. Boston extended the series with a complete team performance in Game Four, and is priced as 8.5-point favourites for another elimination game. Miami won both of the first two games on the road this series, setting them up for an historic run to the Finals from the eight seed.
A win for the Heat would cement their Finals matchup with the Denver Nuggets and Nikola Jokic. Boston overcame a 3-2 deficit in the second round – they are aiming to become the first team in NBA history to come back from 3-0 down. Their Playoff record at home leaves plenty to be desired over the last couple of years, however.

For this bet builder, we are steering well clear of the totals, moneyline and spread. We might know what we are going to get from Miami, even with Gabe Vincent listed as questionable, but predicting which Celtics team will show up is an impossible task. A Boston blowout wouldn’t be a surprise. Nor would it be shocking if they rolled over as they did in Game Three.
It has been a rough series for Jaylen Brown. Saying Jayson Tatum has been inconsistent would border on generous. A defence which was elite in the regular season has too often been sloppy, and they have frequently given the Heat exactly what they want to see.
One consistent player for the Celtics has been Derrick White. He has had his tricky moments defensively, and his minutes have been down in the twenties, but he has been one of the few Celtics capable of consistently draining perimeter shots. White had 14 shot quality points in Game Four, largely down to taking seven, generally good quality, threes. He has made exactly three threes in each game this series.
White is getting some open looks. Miami is not going to overhaul their defence. With the volume expected to remain, we feel confident about 2+ threes here.

It is easier to locate value on the Heat side of the player props. Caleb Martin, for instance, has been exceptional on both ends of the floor in these Eastern Conference Finals. Regularly left open, Martin has taken 6.5 threes per game in this series, and has made over 1.5 in each. He has passed this line in six of his last seven.
There’s a chance Martin has even more open looks in Game Five. Boston has begun to send more help when Butler has the rock. His playmaking has not got the credit it deserves in this postseason. Regularly finding open shooters or feeding interior passes to the big men, Butler has had 5+ assists in every game of this series.
