St. Louis Cardinals vs Milwaukee Brewers Best Bet: Monday, May 15th

The Milwaukee Brewers will be in St. Louis to face the Cardinals for a 3-game series to start the week, and our resident baseball expert Ej Garr is eyeing a favourable pitching matchup to arrive at his best bet for Monday. The Brew Crew won the first series of the campaign against the Cardinals at home back in April, and now the Cards will get a chance to respond at Busch Stadium.

The Brewers will be making their first visit to Busch Stadium this season, and these two teams won’t meet again here until late September. Milwaukee earned two wins from the 3-game set the two teams played in early April, and now the Cardinals will hope to return the favour at Busch Stadium to start the week.

Milwaukee starts this week at the top of the NL Central Division table, and the Cardinals enter the week in the basement of the division. The Brewers started last week losing two of three games to the Dodgers before moving on to sweep the Kansas City Royals at home over the weekend.

I honestly have about four different options when it comes to the best bet for this game because Jack Flaherty is starting for the Cardinals on the mound. Flaherty has given up a home run in six straight starts and he has one bigger problem happening at the moment.
Flaherty has lost the strike zone all too often this campaign, and the walks are starting to be extremely costly as they add up.

After walking 5 Cubs in his last outing, Flaherty is up to 27 walks with 27 earned runs allowed, and his 6.18 ERA is a major concern for the Cardinals starter. Flaherty has allowed no less than 7 hits in his last three starts and the line setters want to try to convince you that he won’t do it again tonight. William Hill is offering the Over 4.5 hits allowed for Flaherty at 2.00, and you cannot shake me off of that bet if you tried. Even though Milwaukee has had their moments of struggles scoring runs, they won’t have that issue on Monday with all of the free passes and hits that they find off the arm of Flaherty.

Freddy Peralta is listed as the Brewers expected starter for Monday, and he has been pitching fantastic baseball lately. Over his last three starts, Peralta has hurled 18 innings and has only allowed 5 earned runs, and that has brought his ERA down to a respectable 3.38. Milwaukee is a slight underdog in this game but most bookmakers are offering close to even money for either team to win the game on the Moneyline.

St. Louis had to play the ESPN Sunday night game in Boston, so they will have an awkward amount of time to return home, get settled, get some sleep, and be ready for this game. Meanwhile, Milwaukee is already in St. Louis waiting for them to get there, so I see a decent night’s rest as another mild advantage for the Brewers on top of the pitching matchup.

St. Louis Cardinals vs Milwaukee Brewers Best Bet

I think Flaherty will give up 5 walks, 7 hits, and another handful of earned runs will see him taking an early shower before the 5th inning even gets here. If you need a secondary bet, you should splash the pot on the Brewers Moneyline to win this game, but if you have the prop bet to make expect Flaherty to give up the hits on Monday.

  • Selection: Jack Flaherty Over 4.5 Hits Allowed
  • Best odds: 2.00 (William Hill)
  • Stakes: 4/10
