The Mariners have taken wins from the first two games of this 4-game set in Seattle as the Oakland A’s are simply drowning in futility this campaign. Going into Wednesday night’s game, The A’s had won 2 of their last 16 games entering Wednesday’s contest which as I write this has not officially started yet.
As you all know, I live in New York and that game starts at nearly 10 p.m. for me on the East Coast, and I am not staying up until 1 in the morning to wait and see how the game transpired. I usually like to know the results of the game before I write these articles, but I don’t think any result would affect the lines for Thursday night.
Seattle was listed as 1.35 favourites on Wednesday night, but for this contest I see the line setters have eased up on the juice. At 1.50, Seattle is expected to easily win the game but as you know we don’t fool around with those kinds of odds around here.
What is going to happen tonight is the Mariners are going to pound the A’s into submission and that gives me two bets to offer for Thursday. First of all, the Mariners team total is set at 4.5, and the folks at William Hill are featuring a 1.95 line on the Over side of the lines. Secondly, the Mariners’ -1.5 handicap is only being offered at 1.91, and I do believe that Logan Gilbert will follow up his last outing with another fantastic effort tonight. I caught the Braves start Gilbert made last time out, and he had control of all four of his pitches. Despite the homer allowed, he only gave up 2 ER to the Braves in a 7 – 3 win for the Mariners on May 20th, and I think catching the A’s right now can only build his confidence even more.
Oakland is 10 – 40 before the Wednesday night game about to start soon, and J.P Sears is set to climb the bump for Oakland to finish this series. Sears has yet to pick up a win (0 – 3), but his 4.99 ERA isn’t all that terrible and he looked pretty good his last time out against Houston. He only gave up a pair of earned runs against the Astros and that followed up a decent showing against the high-flying Texas Rangers offense in which he again only allowed 2 ER.
The major problem here is that the A’s offense ranks 28th in close to every category there is to track, and the defensive stats are even worse. You know when there are 30 teams in your league and the #30 appears just about everywhere the problems will be seen daily.
Oakland ranks 30th in runs allowed per game, opponents batting average, opponents’ OPS, and home runs allowed!

Gilbert is going to shut down the A’s and the Mariners are going to win this game 7 – 2. As much as I can expect Sears to pitch well again, the bullpen issues for the A’s are such a mess, and a 3 – 2 game could simply turn into a beatdown in the later innings of this affair. So, a pair of bets hit the board!
