The Miami Marlins will be in Seattle for the first time since the 2017 campaign. Despite the Fish having a better record than the Mariners, the home team is still listed as the favourites to win the first game of this 3-game set in the Emerald City.
Miami has been one of the surprise teams of the 2023 season, and at 37 – 29, only the Atlanta Braves have a better record in the NL East Division. The Fish certainly took advantage of their schedule over the last 3 series, as they carry an 8 – 1 head of steam into Seattle because they beat up on teams that are simply underachieving this campaign.
After sweeping the Oakland A’s, the Marlins did the same to the Royals before taking 2 of 3 wins from the White Sox over the weekend. All three of those teams are under the .500 mark, and we cannot forget the Marlins were the 69 – 93 team a year ago that were the pushovers and now they’re the team pushing back!
Seattle has had an extremely unpredictable year, and at 31 – 33, I think it is difficult to know what you can expect on any given night. That makes predicting their games a challenge but I think the line setters left this total too low tonight.
I see a 7.50 being offered at Pinnacle with odds of 1,93, and that is the best price I can find from all of the major sportsbooks out there. I was almost going to be bold and maybe suggest we move the total to 8, but I think since I missed my last two MLB best bets I should settle for what’s in front of me.
Jesus Luzardo is listed as the probable starting pitcher for the Marlins, and I love a prop bet that I see posted at William Hill. Luzardo to give up more than ⅖ earned runs features odds of 2.05, and I know he is a strikeout machine this season, but that Over 6.5 K’s price is only listed with odds of 1,85. I think he will allow 3 earned runs before he picks up 7+ strikeouts, but that’s my opinion on the matter.
Bryce Miller has gotten torched to bits in his last two outings against Texas and the Yankees, and Marlins bats aren’t going to be afraid of him in the least. I think this game total is going to fly over the number, and 7.5 runs are nothing to ask to start the week.

Marlins 6 – Mariners 5, and that means we have an upset on our hands too! At 2.21, the odds on the Marlins to win this game on the Moneyline are exactly what the Dr. ordered, so now you have 3 bets to make if you so choose. Luzardo to allow Over 2.5 earned runs, the Marlins to win the game, and the Over 7.5 which I will list as my main play for today’s best bet.
