San Diego Padres vs Washington Nationals Run Total Best Bet: Fade Sanchez for the Over
San Diego Padres vs Washington Nationals Run Total Best Bet: Thursday, August 18th
With some late magic and a little luck, our resident MLB expert Ej Garr escaped with a win on Wednesday night with his total in Texas. Carrying a 2 – 1 record into Thursday, Ej will do his best to wrap up his weekly articles with another winner with the game to be played in San Diego.

Boy, did we get away with that tip last night, but when things are going well stuff like that just goes in our direction and we take it. So, the goal is to finish the week at 3 – 1 as we did last week so I am turning to the total in San Deigo even though the Washington Nationals stink!
Luckily for us, Anibal Sanchez still exists in Major League baseball and he alone might help us account for the 8 runs we’ll need to cash this ticket tonight. I am offering the Over 7.5 at 1.85 for this game on Thursday because Sanchez can’t pitch and the Padres are coming off quite a convincing win on Wednesday.
The 10 – 3 win over Miami showed the patience of the Padres as nearly everyone in the lineup walked to first base. The Padres walked 10 times to go with 11 hits as everyone pitched in to wrap up the series with the Marlins.
So, even with the news of Fernando Tatis being sent home for the year and Eric Hosmer getting dumped to Boston, this team might be better off than they were a month ago. Of course, Juan Soto has yet to produce much of a long-ball threat, but we have to assume that he will start hitting more homers at some point with his new team. The hits are coming for Soto though, and he has got to be happy that he is playing on a team with a fighting chance every night instead of wasting away with the Nationals.
So, let me get back to Sanchez because, my goodness, if someone shouldn’t have a job in baseball it is him. I don’t know what manager would whole-heartedly put him on the mound expecting to get a team win and that is just outrageous. I am sorry but if I am a big league manager and the guy I am putting on the mound sucks? How do I convince my team that we are playing for something?
Washington is certainly not playing for anything anymore and it’s almost insulting to watch now. Sure, they’ll win a few games somehow but this is going to get so much uglier before it gets better.
Sanchez has given up a home run in all 6 of his starts since returning from injury, and he’s given up two of them in 4 of those starts. Hi, I said he’s given up 2 homers in 4 of his 6 starts this year and he is what we call fade material.
I expect San Diego to score all 8 of the runs we’ll need tonight and their team total is 5.5 at 2.10 to go over so you might want to be on that too. I guess you can either pick your poison or go for both but I will make my main play the Over 7.5 at 1.85.
Yu Darvish is the Padres expected starter tonight, and he too has had plenty of suspect outings despite the 10 – 6 record. He’s given up 5 home runs in his last 3 starts as well, so this might be a festival with plenty of fireworks happening.

Honestly, what the hell are the line setters doing here? Is this some kind of ploy to get people to think that if they set the total low, enough people will buy into it? Sorry, we have more brains than that and the Rainmaker says to take the Over 7.5 because you like to make money!
I will see you on Monday and be on the lookout for my NCAA Football preview article for the new campaign that is starting on the 27th. I will be tossing out plays for that around here too so I hope you enjoy your weekend!
