PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES VS HOUSTON ASTROS GAME 5 BEST BET: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 3rd

In classic Ej Garr fashion, when the chips were down, and things looked grim, those things suddenly changed, and money fell into our pockets again on Wednesday night. We call them miracles, fortunate circumstances, or even just plain ole excellent what our resident baseball expert is doing around here, so let’s go for more on Thursday when Game 5 goes down at Citizens Bank Park.

In this article:

November 3, 01:03 (UK time)

I know, I was shocked myself watching the miracle happen again for us, and you know it’s far from the first time I’ve made it happen. No, I did that, HA! What a way to cash a ticket on Wednesday night, and we were dead in the water with the 1st-5 inning total right?

With a 2.12 attached to the Over 4 1st 5 inning total, it was 0 – 0 going to the top of the 5th, and we had no right seeing what happened next to help us out in that fashion. Houston scored 5 runs out of nowhere, and our Over 4 was a golden ticket full of value, because who am I? The Mayor of Value City, you know it!

That officially makes the 1st-5 inning total a perfect 4 – 0 in this year’s World Series, and it isn’t it nice that you’ve had me here to give them to you the whole time? I was a bartender/barista for 20 years of my life, and yet here I am filling your tip jar, how ironic!

So, I assume I don’t need to spell out how that miracle happened because the bottom line is that we cashed another ticket, and this series is level at two wins apiece. What that also means is that we are headed back to Houston for Game 6 and what could even be a potential, dare I say a 7th game in the Fall Classic? Three of the last Six Classics have gone the distance, and how great would be it to see another one go 7 games putting all the marbles on the line, win or lose, one game for your lives

So, being a Yankees fan and knowing the history of the World Series, Don Larsen threw his perfect game, and it stood as the only no-hitter in the World Series until Wednesday night. Cristian Javier threw the first 6 innings of no-hit baseball, and the bullpen came in and gave up absolutely nada! Larsen’s perfetto came in the 1956 World Series against the Dodgers in Game 5, which the Yanks went on to win. HE threw 70 fastballs from the 97 pitches on Wednesday night, and he just blew smoke.

Oh, also because I am a Yankees fan, I had to sit through when Javier combined to no-hit us this season too, so I will go on a limb and say that being part of a no-hitter in the regular season and post-season is about as rare as it gets.

So, I don’t see why we won’t get to Game 7, because I said before game 3 happened that this World Series is just a fun one to watch, even though both Games 3 and 4 were lopsided wins that each team split here in Philly.

As I see it right now at 11 pm E.T, when I hand this piece in, Verlander and Syndergaard are showing as the two expected pitchers to take the mound for Game 5. Excuse me while I go change my underwear and my shirt, and damnit, I think I got some on my shoes and socks too!

I had iced tea in my mouth when I saw that, and you know why if you follow a lick of baseball.

Justin Verlander in the World Series is a disaster waiting to happen, and Syndergaard pitching in this park against the Astros bats? Holy mother of pearl, are we getting paid on Thursday bashing all of the totals we can find? First of all, we are going right back to the well that is nowhere near empty yet, when we splash the pot with the 1st 5 innings total again.

Did you read my Game 1 World Series article? Let me quote what I said about Verlander getting the nod to start the series for Houston. “How does 0-6 sound with a 5.68 ERA from 7 World Series starts in his career?” Verlander gave up 5 earned runs in Game 1, and that’s the game that Philly made the big comeback to win, 6 – 5 to open this shindig.

Syndergaard was slated to start Game 3 before it got rained out, and the Phils manager decided to go with Ranger Suarez which paid off with a home win to take a 2 – 1 series lead. Now, trusting Syndergaard to play a pivot game that will put one team only one win away from a title can be tricky.

The Houston bullpen is as sound as they come, and I won’t put down the Phillies pen either. They will both influence the outcomes of every game left to play, so it could be a matter of which stays the strongest and the longest.

Bryce Harper said in the Game 3 postgame that the fans were the difference in helping them win the game. Yeah, the fans can’t hit a baseball and either could Philly last night, so fans, shmans! Getting no hits at home sure treated the fans to a good game to watch, so now what?

I have decided to not play with sides so I am sticking to my guns with this 1st 5 inning stuff. I still don’t know what we did to deserve the winning ticket on Wednesday, and I am not arguing with the baseball Gods
