It took an extra day to get to Game 3 after the rainout in Philadelphia on Monday, and there was a pitching change for the Phillies who turned to Ranger Suarez. Noah Syndergaard was slated to make the Game 3 start for the Phils, but the decision to go with Suarez was made and it looked to be a great call early.
The Phillies jumped out to a quick 2 – 0 start in the bottom of the 1st inning after #3 went boom to the opposite field. Bryce Harper’s last at-bat in Philly came against Atlanta in the NLCS, and the last pitch he saw there was bashed into the outfield stands. The first pitch the MVP of the NLCS saw on Tuesday night, made it back-to-back pitches at home that were baseball sent into the night sky, and the momentum from that carried on further into the game.
Suarez got into a bit of trouble in the top of the 2nd inning, but with Astros on 1st and 3rd bases, he got out of the jam with a called third strike Can I say that the home plate umpire had early dinner plans? Dan Iassogna was calling pitches that were nowhere near the zone as strikes, and he is a big reason why I can’t wait until we get away from people/umpires calling balls and strikes altogether.
I know that catchers are built to make balls look like strikes, and some of them do it so well that it’s just getting stupid now. They call it framing, and we call it buying strikes. I’ll let it go now, HA!
Alec Bohm went deep to make it 3 – 0 in the bottom of the 2nd inning, and he made some post-season history along the way. Bohm’s blast was the 1,000th home run in World Series history, and it was his first career playoff blast of his young career. Lance McCullers gave up another solo home run to Brandon Marsh who made the score 4 – 0, and that pushed my 1st 5-inning total that you got from yours truly for Game 3. The pitching change didn’t change my mind, as I still played the same action as I hope you did.
The Phils pounded out 3 more runs before the 5th inning was over and that’s how we cashed our main bet for Game 3 on Tuesday night. I thought the Astros would come to Philadelphia and win Game 3, so now I have to rethink anything relating to a side bet.
I think that we just need to stick to what’s been happening though, and that is expecting early runs to be scored. The 1st 5 inning total is a perfect 3 – 0 to the Over and we are about to hope it goes to 4 – 0.
Aaron Nola started game 1 of the World Series, and he helped us cash that 1st inning total after surrendering 5 earned runs through only 4 ⅓ IP. Cristian Javier is expected to make the start for Houston, and despite not pitching much in the playoffs he has done well with what he has been asked to do. Javier has only pitched 6 ⅔ innings in two post-season appearances, his last effort coming against the Yankees on October 22. It’s been that long since he has seen the mound, and that suits me just fine.

That well is not dry until we squeeze every drop out of it, so it’s back to the 1st 5 innings total again. Now, I see a 1.83 line beng offered for the straight 4 total, and an even money line for the 4.5 to go over, even though the game total is still 7.5. That’s a bit odd, but they know what we know and that is the runs keep coming early.
