Yes, I know, thanks for reminding me that the Reds bats simply had no life on Monday so it’s back to the drawing board and I am headed out to Oakland to try to find tonight’s best bet.
What sold me on this play was the fact that Zach Logue is starting for the Athletics tonight, and one thing he has not been able to do is to make an offense look bad this season. The last time we saw big Zach on the bump he was making the Texas Rangers offense look spectacular.
Logue gave up a pair of home runs which led to 7 earned runs being scored against him, and he has now lost 6 of his last 7 starts. Overall, Logue holds a 3 – 7 record with that ugly ERA at 6.35, and yet the line setters aren’t expecting 4 runs to be scored before we get to the 6th inning?
Well, you know me, I will fade a bad pitcher with a low total more often than not and when I saw the 3.5 and 1.91 on the line for this Over through 5 innings, the gavel dropped… Sold!
Now, I will tell you tonight’s game is in the 8th inning as I post this for you all in the morning, and it is late out here in New York just before midnight. I wanted to see how this game ended before I wrote up tonight’s affair but I might not make it. It’s only 3 – 0 Marlins and it was 3 – 0 in the 3rd inning so there hasn’t been much happening since the scoring happened.
Does it concern me that these offenses aren’t exactly up there with the best in baseball? Oh, stop all of that! If we only played over for the best offensive teams every night we would still have the same percentage of wins and losses. I always talk about how averages in baseball over a 162-game campaign can get so conglomerated from 5th to 20th.
The difference in some statistics over the long season can be .02 of a % toward a total or handicap, so we just have to hope to be on the right side more often than not and have a good line to play. At 1.91, I don’t see why we won’t see 4 runs early with a Logue on the hill for Oakland.
I am certainly not playing it because Edward Cabrera isn’t on top of his game. He is the natural concern for anyone thinking this total could stay under because the kid can pitch lights out. I caught his starts in Chicago and Philly recently, and my goodness, man! If that arm doesn’t impress you as much as what Sandy Alcantara can do in this Marlins rotation, what are you looking for?
Imagine if the Fish bats could only line up with some of the quality arms in this rotation now. It’s a shame that both of them will likely end up being traded to an organization that has a chance to win something one day.

If I am being honest, I see a 4 – 1 game here going to the 6th inning with the Marlins holding a lead and getting to Logue early. Oh, I know investing in a Fish offense can be scary as all heck but tonight I think the water is safe so come on in and take a swim on the 1st 5 total!
