Oakland Athletics vs Boston Red Sox Bet Builder: 2.05 Wager For Wednesday’s Game
Oakland Athletics vs Boston Red Sox Bet Builder: Wednesday, July 19th
The Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics wrap up their three-game series on Wednesday night with one win and one shutout apiece. Boston is once again heavily favoured for Wednesday’s contest, with Brayan Bello matching up with swingman Ken Waldichuk.
The Red Sox have gone 10-5 in Bello’s starts this season, with the second-year pitcher owning a 3.14 ERA and a 3.77 xERA. Crucially, he has been keeping Boston in games all year, having not allowed more than three earned runs since coughing up five in his first appearance of the campaign.
Oakland’s win on Tuesday was their first since July 5th. It’s no secret they are experiencing a historically poor campaign, and they have gone 8-14 when Waldichuk has started games. He’s not going to pitch especially deep into this one, and his track record suggests he will struggle against this Red Sox offence.

While the southpaw has improved a little recently, he’s still got an ugly 6.66 ERA and a 5.23 xERA. Low strikeout and high walk numbers are accompanied by a lot of hard contact, which it’s safe to say is not a winning formula.
Boston might have failed to score on Tuesday, but they are eighth in xwOBA on the season and ninth by wRC+. This is a good offence, despite what some might have projected before the season began. Oakland, naturally, is one of the worst offences in the Majors, whatever way you look at it, and has scored more than three runs just three times in their last nine games.
The Red Sox have, by far, the superior starter. Bello consistently keeps the Red Sox in games, while Waldichuk has his work cut out against this Boston offence, and Oakland’s pitching overall has been the worst in the big leagues this season.
Oakland Athletics vs Boston Red Sox Bet Builder
It’s a no-brainer to take the Red Sox on the moneyline here, even after losing 3-0 on Tuesday. They are on an 11-3 run and are rightly favoured.
Given that the Athletics have the second-worst batting average allowed on the season, we are also backing Masataka Yoshida to hit over 0.5 total bases. Yoshida is in the 98th percentile in strikeout rate and the 91st percentile in expected batting average, which are accompanied by a .318 batting average on the season. The lefty has very minimal splits and went one-for-one against Waldichuk earlier this season.
Yoshida has had at least one base in 11 of his last 12 games, including seven bases over four games against the Athletics.
At 2.05, there’s great value in pairing a Red Sox win with yet another hit for Yoshida.
- Masataka Yoshida over 0.5 total bases
- Boston Red Sox moneyline
Bet Builder Odds: 2.05
