There will be no celebration and there will be no fanfare in two days when the regular season ends for these two teams, so before we get there I have to point us to this total on Tuesday night in the Bay. Oakland is hosting the Angels again and they will finish out the season tomorrow putting to rest a campaign to forget.
Oakland has lost over 100 games for only the second time in their club history, so Wednesday can’t get here quick enough for the Athletics. This Oakland offense has been downright offensive if you get my drift, and it has led to one of the worst years ever. When you see a little #30 next to your rankings for team batting average and team OPS, you know how bad it’s been. The As also rank 29th in MLB scoring only 3.59 runs per game, and that’s why you haven’t seen me talking about them much around here.
As many of you know, I like to pick games where I expect some scoring to take place to keep my games exciting and worth watching. I am suggesting this game to go over the number tonight, but only because that number is a straight 7 and I don’t trust either starter to come out and pitch some kind of gem.
Cole Irvin (9 – 13; 4.11 ERA) and Michael Lorenzen (8 – 6; 4.52 ERA) are the expected starters for this tilt on Tuesday night, and I don’t see why the line setters feel like a 7 should scare anyone into expecting some runs here. Did you see the 1st 5 Inning total is set at 3.5? It is not usually just the norm to see a 3.5 just because the game total is 7. Unless the juice is attached and that’s not the case today.
The Angles have picked now to be as hot as they have been all year, and they are scoring runs in droves, and I expect that to continue tonight. It’s too little, too late, but at least it will build some momentum toward next season if it does any good at all.
