New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox Run Total Best Bet: Thursday, September 22nd

The Yankees offense helped our readers cash another ticket on Wednesday night, and our resident baseball guru is now 3 – 1 for the week. Turning to the rivalry that is Yankees vs. Red Sox, Ej is expecting more fireworks on Thursday in the Bronx as he sees another opportunity on the total.

New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox Preview

September 23, 00:15 (UK time)

It’s Yankees versus Red Sox and it’s 4 days of emotion even if Boston is out of the playoff discussion. Standings and records go out the window when these two historic clubs take the field. Luckily for me, I am on the Yankees side of the rivalry so I can rip apart all of you Red Sox fans for being in last place, and for losing to the Reds last night! The Reds? Come on, man!

Gleyber Torres has caught fire at the most opportune time of the season, and he culminated his current 10-game hitting streak last night with a pair of home runs… IN THE 8TH INNING ALONE!
That’s right, Torres became the 6th Yankee in team history to homer twice in one inning last night as the Yankees poured out 14 runs headed into tonight’s affair with the Sox who are in town for 4 games.

Torres is batting .400 during the 10-game hit streak, and yet we are all just waiting for one thing to happen in the Boogie Down. Aaron Judge failed to hit home run #61 on Wednesday night, but he did ensure he kept his triple crown status in check because of some timely hitting on the night. The Judge ended the game 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles but history was made in another way on Wednesday night.

Giancarlo Stanton hit a grand slam to end the game on Tuesday night, and Oswaldo Cabrera hit a grand slam in the 1st inning on Wednesday night. That had never happened in the history of baseball so at least there was a historic home run hit on the night, it just didn’t come from the bat of Judge.

Judge is batting .317 has bashed 60 bombs, and the 128 RBI also lead the league which essentially spells one thing… AL MVP, BABY! The entire Maris family was on hand on Wednesday night and I will assume they’ll have the same seats for tonight’s affair in the Bronx between two rivals. Over the last 16 games, Judge has improved his batting average from .294 to .317, and he is taking an 11-game hit streak into tonight’s game 1 with Boston. His numbers over that 16-game span? Oh, he’s only hitting .492 with 9 home runs, 15 RBi, with an OPS of 1.634, pfft!

Luis Severino looked like he had total control of his pitches after missing a good bit of time away from the mound. Severino averaged 97.2 MPH with his 4-seamers. Which is 1.1 MPH higher than his average for the campaign. He threw 34 4-seamers. 14 sliders, 11 changeups, 3 cutters, and a sinker through 64 pitches over 5 innings.

What makes this game, and the series, interesting, is the fact that Boston wants nothing more than to come into New York and try to get in the Yankees’ way to the post-season in any way possible.

This total is 8.5 and I see Bwin offering 1.87 for the action on the Over. The Over 9.5 is being offered at 2.32 at Pinnacle, and what you need to do is run there and jump all over that! Will there be 10 runs in the opening game of a 4-game set with Boston and New York?

Michael Wacha (11 – 1; 2.61 ERA) will likely be going up against Jameson Taillon (13 – 5; 4.04), as the two are listed as the expected starters for Thursday night. On paper, the last thing I would recommend is to fade Wacha because he is having a great year being on a 72 – 75 last-place team, and the Red Sox seem to step up when he is on the bump. I am not coming close to thinking that as bad as Boston has been and as good as the Yankees are playing that it leads to a potential beatdown.

Don’t go laying the -1.5 or -2 with New York, please!

New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox Best Bet

The Over 8.5 is my last play for the week, and even with Wacha on the mound, he won’t be able to slow down the Yanks enough to pick up win #12. Boston will get to Taillon too, so I expect Boston to bounce back from a horrible effort last night in Cincinnati.

  • Selection: Over 8.5 Runs
  • Best odds: 1.87 (Bwin)
  • Stakes: 4/10

Odds as of 9:00 am September 22nd, 2022. Odds may now differ.
