So, it’s 8 – 4 and the Pirates have a commanding lead going to the bottom of the 9th inning in New York, so what could happen? With a mighty swing of the bat, The Judge led off the inning to make it 8 – 5 after smashing home run #60 on the campaign. Done! Home run leader, RBI leader, and the man has a chance to win the triple crown if he takes the batting title too? If Aaron Judge didn’t play another inning this year he already has the MVP sealed, end of the story, nothing else to say about it!
Harrison Bader, a Bronxville, NY, native made his debut in pinstripes and I would say it went rather well for him. Bader went 2 for 4 with 3 early RBI that helped give the Yanks a lead that they carried into the 6th inning, but the Pirates scored 4 runs in the 8th inning to break the game open. The Judge home run brought life into the Yankees dugout and after loading the bases Giancarlo Stanton sent everyone home with a walk-off grand slam to end the game.
What an ending and now the Judge is tied with some dude you may have heard of that goes by the name George! George Herman Ruth hit 60 bombs in 1927 and now Aaron Judge has joined him and Roger Maris as the only two American League players to have hit 60 dingers in a campaign.
All right, well, let’s get to tonight’s affair, and I jumped right to this total when I saw the 8 at 1.95 sitting at Bet365. Like, hold on now, what is 8? I see Pinnacle showing 1.81 for the 7.5 to go over, and I think I might have to call every friend I have in Europe and tell them to play that.
Luis Severino (5 – 3; 3.45 ERA) is scheduled to start against Roansy Contreras (5 – 4; 3.24 ERA) tonight, and one thing you need to also factor in is the errors the Pirates seem to make all too often. Even watching the game last night, you can see all of the poor throws to first and simple fly balls that aren’t being caught that make a pitcher’s life miserable. The Pirates make a lot of mistakes and those errors lead to runs more often than not.
Severino was going bonkers in the dugout during the 9th-inning comeback, so he will be fired up to take the Yankee Stadium mound if the crowd is anything like it was tonight. Considering that Aaron Judge is on the cusp of tying Roger Maris, I will go on a limb and say that the big house will be full of Yankee fans trying to catch that ball if he does bash it tonight.
Regardless, these two teams are going to hit the ball and I don’t think we need to think that less than 8 runs will be scored tonight here in the Boogie Down, baby! I am still losing my mind after watching that unfold the way it did, and I still can’t believe I just go to mention Aaron Judge and Babe freakin’ Ruth in the same breath.
