New York Mets vs Milwaukee Brewers Best Bet: Wednesday, June 28th

The big news on Tuesday surrounding the Mets had the New York media in a frenzy, and it all surrounds the future of the 2023 team. Mets’ GM Billy Eppler has officially announced that the current team is now on the clock to turn around the bus because the wheels are certainly starting to fall off the wagon!

Our resident baseball expert Ej Garr is a native New Yorker and he always has his eyes on the Mets and Yankees. Today, he is picking on the Mets and trying not to smile too hard about their recent struggles.

New York Mets vs Milwaukee Brewers Preview

June 29, 00:10 (UK time)

With a 6 – 16 record approaching Tuesday night’s game against the Brewers, the Mets had compiled a 6 – 16 record in June. Met’s GM Billy Eppler basically told the media that the time is now to turn this campaign around or else things will be changing on the field. A sense of urgency is an understatement at this point, as the Mets are vurrently 16.5 games back in the NL East Division standings.

Also nearly 10 games behind the Wild Card playoff picture, not that we are anywhere near there yet, the Mets have been given their last rights from the brass so the time is now or never. Eppler pointed out the pitching issues that are blatantly hurting the Mets this season, and losing your closer before the season even began is undoubtedly hurting the success of the Mets’ bullpen.

I am not a Mets fan in the least, in case you missed it, HA! It’s either Yankees or Mets around here, and I chose my allegiance to the Yankees back in 1976 when I was 7 years old. (We got swept by the Reds that season so I was a crushed kid until we won the next two World Series in 1977 and 1978.

Anyway, I don’t bet on sports by who I root for or what team I like or don’t like, and I can bet on the Mets and Yankees with a level head to just see through the fanhood. The Mets are being given this big ultimatum to fix it now or changes will be made, and things like that can either bring a team together or tear them apart further.

I am being sure to watch every pitch tonight to see what reaction the Mets have on the field from all of this so I can produce a tip for this game tonight. It was a pitching matchup featuring David Peterson vs Julio Teheran and oh, it was Mr. Met Indiana Jones Bobble Head night at Citi Field! Peterson has not pitched since May 15th and his ERA over 8.00 sure is bid timing considering the Brewers already won the first meeting on this three-game series on Monday night, 2 – 1.

As soon as the game started they flashed the ugly stat of the year, and it was that batters are averaging .375 with a 1.114 OPS against his sliders this season. Jeff McNeil ran off a an 0 for 18 slump before finally getting on base in his second AB of Tuesday night’s game.

Pete Alonso stole second base after being hit in the shoulder with one out in the 6th inning, and the Mets have safely stolen 59 of their 65 attempts to snaga bag and 33 straight without being caught.

Peterson outdueled Teheran and the Mets were up to a 7 – 0 lead at the end of 6 innings after Vogelbach smashed a 2-run bomb that ended Teheran’s night. Peterson threw a season-high 110 pitches through 6 innings, and he got himself out of some messy situations to shutout the Brewers giving the Mets exactly what the GM wanted… More heart, more pride, and more thrill for a fanbase that expects to be competitive this year.

Brandon Nimmo homered twice, Lindor (6-game hit streak) and Vogelbach both went deep, and SNY posted a stat in the 7th inning that I will share. Since 1900, only the 1930 Phillies have a lower win percentage when scoring 6 or more runs during a season. The 1930 Phillies won only 51.4% of their games when they scored at least 6 runs, and the Mets are currently sitting at 52%, tied with those 1911 Boston Rustlers I bet you remember so well, HA! The Mets’ offense is still doing their part but the pitching staff needs to do a much better hob than they have.

Here is a did you know. The Mets are 22 – 3 when any starter gives Buck Showalter 6 innings of duty. They just can’t get enough quality starts to build on those numbers.

Wade Miley and Kodai Senga are listed as the probable pitchers for tonight’s game, and Miley has produced two fantastic efforts in a row after missing a month of play on the IL. Miley pitched 5 shutout innings against Pittsburgh and followed that up with 6 more scoreless innings against hte Guardians in his last two outings. That’s 11 IP with no blemishes against him and that surely gives the Brew Crew the edge.

Senga has only earned two wins from his last nine starts, and he threw over 100 pitches for the fourth time this season his last time against the Phils. The Mets only produced a single run for Senga as he picked up his second straight loss to bring his record to 6 – 5 for the campaign.

New York Mets vs Milwaukee Brewers Best Bet

The Mets offense is not the issue and the pitching staff needed a big effort from Peterson which they got. Now that the Mets GM has expressed his displeasure in the current shape of the team, I think that Tuesday’s total effort win against the Brewers will be something to build on.

The Mets will take the rubber game of this series on Wedneday night, 6 – 3. That means you can enjoy the handicap offer of -1.5 at a whopping 2.54 if you are a 1xBet user. I see the average odds are falling at about 2.48 at most major books, so I hope you can catc the line when it holds the most value!

  • Selection: NY Mets Runline -1.5
  • Best odds: 2.54 (1xBet)
  • Stakes: 4/10
