San Diego Padres vs Philadelphia Phillies — Philadelphia Phillies moneyline
Wed, Sep 06. 21:10 (UK time)
Since a 25-32 start, the Phillies have gone 51-30. Their offence has been elite all year, including a 144 wRC+ over the last fortnight. They hand Zack Wheeler the ball on Wednesday night – Wheeler is having another exceptional year, boasting an xERA a shade above three.
San Diego might have won four of their last five, but it is still a surprise to see them at such a short price for this game. Yes, Michael Wacha has an excellent ERA, but Wacha’s underlying metrics do not back up his performance to date. His 4.31 xERA is below average, and he doesn’t generate much swing-and-miss, which is a concern against the high-powered Phils.
We feel very confident this Phillies offence can do sufficient damage against Wacha to secure their 77th win of the season in this one.

Atlanta Braves vs St Louis Cardinals – Atlanta Braves -1.5
Thu, Sep 07. 00:20 (UK time)
The 60-78 Cardinals have lost 12 of their last 18. They are in the bottom 10 in bullpen ERA since the start of August, and they are giving the ball to Dakota Hudson and his 5.10 xERA on Wednesday night. Hudson allowed just one earned run in seven innings last time out, but his season-long numbers are ugly across the board.
Atlanta, meanwhile, has Cy Young contender Spencer Strider on the bump. Strider is having a spectacular season – he pitched to a 2.97 ERA last month, and has been striking out hitters for fun. The Braves have gone 22-5 in his starts.
The Braves offence continues to dominate opposing pitchers. St Louis’ line up has been very quiet lately, posting just an 80 wRC+ over the last two weeks. Even at a short price, there’s value here.
- Selection: Atlanta Braves -1.5

- Stakes: 4/10
Texas Rangers vs Houston Astros – Over 8.5 runs
Thu, Sep 07. 01:05 (UK time)
Former teammates and future Hall of Famers Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer go head-to-head in Texas. Houston’s two wins to open this series have put them in sole possession of top spot in the American League West, and they are gunning for the sweep on Wednesday night.
Texas’ offence has cooled of late, and their bullpen has been a disaster. Their relievers have a 5.54 FIP since the start of last month, and they have blown 10 of their last 12 save opportunities. Houston, meanwhile, have a 155 wRC+ across the last two weeks.
Verlander and Scherzer should keep the scoring more under control than we saw in the last two games, but the over is still the way to go here. Texas has gone over this line in five of their last six.
- Selection: Over 8.5 runs
- Best Odds: 1.83
- Bookamaker: Bet365
- Stakes: 3/10
