DETROIT TIGERS VS KANSAS CITY ROYALS: Tigers With Some Nice Value
Wed, Sep 27. 23:40 (UK time)
The Royals have gone 3-8 against the Tigers this season, being outscored 55 to 40 in the process. The second half has seen numerous positives for Detroit, with young players breaking out and Tarik Skubal dealing.
Skubal, who gets the ball on Wednesday night, has excelled this season, pitching to a 2.33 xERA with very high strikeout numbers. He matches up with Jonathan Bowlan – Bowlan is making his MLB debut after 5.91 ERA across AAA and AA in 2023.
The Tigers are on a 15-9 stretch, and have won four of their last six by two or more runs. Kansas City has the worst record against the run line this season, despite picking up a few wins in September.
With Skubal on the mound, the value is clearly on the Tigers to cover.
MINNESOTA TWINS VS OAKLAND ATHLETICS: Twins Eyeying Runs
Thu, Sep 28. 00:40 (UK time)
Our second selection will be from the Minnesota Twins vs Oakland Athletics game. Athletics starter Joey Estes gave up six earned runs in 4.2 innings of his first MLB start. He now faces a Twins line up which dropped 11 runs on the As on Tuesday night, and ranks fifth by wRC+ this month. Estes’ stuff isn’t anything special.
The Twins have passed this team total in five of their last six games. If they don’t pass this against Estes in the early going, they are bound to have some joy facing an Athletics bullpen which ranks second-last in bullpen ERA on the season.
Oakland has conceded five or more runs in nine of their last 12. While this price might seem a bit short, there’s still value.
SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS VS SAN DIEGO PADRES: Padres to Scrape By
Thu, Sep 28. 02:45 (UK time)
Finally, we turn our attention to the San Francisco Giants vs San Diego Padres game. Padres starter Matt Waldron has allowed three earned runs across 11 innings in his last two starts. His underlying metrics have been excellent across that span, too. On Wednesday, he faces a Giants line up which has desperately struggled over the last three months.
Amid reports of locker room issues, the Giants’ season has ended abysmally. Once in the box seat in the Wild Card chase, San Francisco has gone 8-16 in September and has slipped to fourth in the National League West.
San Diego, meanwhile, has gone 16-7 this month. Their offence should be able to put up enough against Sean Manaea to claim a 17th September win tonight.
