Detroit has quietly gone on a 12-10 run. Their young position player core has powered an above-average offence in August, and they have put up 14 runs over their first two games against the Wildcard-chasing Chicago Cubs.
Chicago has played some great baseball over the last few weeks, pulling their season back from the brink. They are underdogs on the road here, however, with Jameson Taillon and his 5.26 xERA taking the hill.
Detroit Tigers vs Chicago Cubs Expert Tip
Taillon faces off against Tarik Skubal, who has been exceptional since returning from injury. Skubal has a 2.63 xERA in 2023, and has allowed one or zero earned runs in five of his eight starts.
With both bullpens and offences being pretty much equal, there’s value backing the Tigers with the pitching matchup so heavily in their favour.

Chicago White Sox vs Seattle Mariners Preview

The Seattle Mariners are MLB’s hottest team. On their second eight-game winning streak of the month, Seattle boasts a league-best 143 wRC+ in August, and has inserted themselves in the race for the American League West crown. Tonight, they send control master George Kirby to the mound.
Chicago has had another abysmal season. They fired their general manager and vice president on Tuesday. They are on a 2-8 run, leaving them on an ugly 49-77 for the season. Wednesday’s starter Michael Kopech has an ERA and xERA starting with five, and owns a 9.88 ERA in three August starts.
Chicago White Sox vs Seattle Mariners Expert Tip
Kirby might have given up four earned runs last time out, but even if he repeats that performance, the white-hot Mariners line up should be able to cover this line against Kopech. They can get to the White Sox bullpen, too.

Atlanta Braves vs New York Mets Preview

This is the second time Jose Quintana has faced the fearsome Braves line up this month. The southpaw kept the Braves quiet last time out, going six innings for just one earned run. Quintana, though, has ridden his luck to a 3.03 ERA, given that his xERA is up at 4.18.
We can’t see him replicating that performance. Atlanta is by far the best offence against left-handed pitching. They are also fourth in pitches seen per plate appearance, and should be able to drive up Quintana’s pitch count even if they don’t hit him out of the game early on.

There have also been some concerns with Quintana’s command – his 9.5% walk rate is the second-highest mark of his big-league career. There’s real value on this prop.
