The Blue Jays and Padres set up for a three-game series that kicks off on Tuesday night in Canada, and the line setters aren’t sure which team to list as the favourites. As far as I can see, both teams are 1.91 on the Moneyline, which means we have a coinflip situation.
I will not even go near any of that because the total is where I see the value when the series opens on Tuesday night. Joe Musgrove and Alex Manoah are listed as the probable starting pitchers for this contest, and all I can see is a 7-6 score, at least, before the final out is made.
San Diego is trying to shake off, having lost their last three games of a four-game set against Philly, but the Padres did score no less than four runs in any of those losses. Scoring isn’t the issue for the Padres; their pitching and defence are cause for concern, and the Jays will be smacking the ball all over the field on Tuesday night.
Musgrove has pitched extremely well over his last nine starts. Don’t think I don’t recognize that. The issue for me is who he has faced over his last nine starts because there are a lot of junk offenses in that mix. Tampa Bay is the only sound offense Musgrove has seen since mid-May, and this Jays’ offense is no picnic to deal with.
Alex Manoah will get hit hard himself, which makes this total at a straight 9 more than playable to put in a combo for Tuesday night.
