Milwaukee Brewers vs Pittsburgh Pirates Run Total Best Bet: Tuesday, August 30th

Cheers! It’s time for everyone to have a beer as we head to Milwaukee, home of the Brewers and the place we’ll be expecting some scoring to happen as well on Tuesday night. We’re celebrating Ej’s incredible 1st-5 Inning call last night that came in just before the final out of the frame in Minnesota too. So, our resident MLB expert is on the prowl for a smashing total to land in our laps and he believes he’s found it!

August 31, 01:10 (UK time)

Was that amazing last night, or what? We need 5 runs to cross home plate in Minnesota and the game ended 4 – 2 but all 6 runs came before they got to the 6th inning? Really? Hey, that’s called thankful and happy to enjoy a little luck that always comes in handy once in a while.

You all know me by now, and totals are my thing around here and I like to suggest totals to go over if I can help it. More often than not, I will peruse the entire slate and go over each starting pitcher and see what lines are being posted before I pick my game to discuss here.

In all honesty, I do not like a lot of runs around the entire league tonight, and if you see the MLB Grand Salami? You might want to take that Under whatever number they attach to the action. I play that thing every night and I do it well because of the totals that are involved. Oh, by the way, if you don’t know what the salami is, it’s all of the runs scored on that day/night. Usually, we see around 127 or so on a given night with a full slate give or take a run or two, and it is not out yet so we can’t make a play on it.

I like a lot of unders tonight but the one total I picked out to go over was this one in Milwaukee. I am seeing a straight 9 at most sites, but to be honest, I am not seeing this total out all over the world as I put this in at 1 am New York time here in the States. I see only two bookmakers posting this total, so hopefully when you wake up my editor here will pop in and make everything official for you.

I expect runs to be scored here, and you know the two starting pitchers are always on my mind so let’s talk about them both. Mitch Keller (4 – 10; 4.50 ERA) is the expected starting pitcher for the Pirates and I see Jason Alexander (2 – 1; 5.26 ERA) showing as the Brew Crew mound-minder on Tuesday night.

Those numbers alone could convince you why this total at 9 is playable, but Mitch Keller has just gotten torched in his last two outings against Boston and Atlanta. Granted, he only gave up two earned runs of the 7 he allowed because the defense let him down, but that’s part of the game, baby!

If your defense isn’t ready behind you, that is kind of on the starting pitcher because the flow of the game certainly can affect the infielders’ moods and emotions. I am not saying that Keller is a pain milking clock between pitches, but when men are on base he does take more time between pitches. The 131 hits allowed along with the 44 walks also is a concern considering he’s only thrown 118 innings this campaign.

Don’t look at Alexanders’ outings this year because it fooled me a little too when I saw what he did against the Dodgers recently. Then it hit me that he only pitched 4 innings combined as his reliever/starter role is still being defined. The 65 hits allowed combined with the 21 walks given up through 53 IP tells you that he gets in trouble putting too many men on the base paths.

I honestly would like to suggest this 1st 5 inning total but that’s not out yet either. I assume you’ll have to settle for the 9, so take it over and let’s start this week 2 – 0 in style!
