The Houston Astros will begin the World Series at home in the great State of Texas, as they search for only their second championship and first since winning it all in 2017. For the 4th time in 6 years, Houston has won the American League pennant, but so far, they only have one trophy to show for it and even that win can be questioned.
Hey, let’s make no mistake that that entire 2017 post-season was a scandal for the Astros who were having signs sent down to them at the plate, so they knew what pitch was coming every time. Can I still say that the purist in me is sick to my stomach thinking about how they won that trophy? There, I just did!
All right, well assuming that this time around the Astros won’t be stealing every sign they can find, the Phillies come into Houston brimming with confidence themselves. Houston may not have lost a single playoff game yet, but the Phillies didn’t just back their way into the World Series either.
Justin Verlander (1 – 0 Playoffs. 2 starts; 6.03 ERA, 14 strikeouts, 2 walks, 10 innings pitched) vs. Zack Wheeler (1 – 1 Playoffs, 4 starts; 1.78 ERA, 25 strikeouts, 3 walks, 25 1/3 innings pitched)
Let’s talk about Mr. Verlander and his World Series outings, shall we? How does 0-6 sound with a 5.68 ERA from 7 World Series starts in his career? Playoffs? Talking about, playoffs? We just saw what happened to him in his last start against the Yanks and the Phillies have proven they are coming out looking to bash baseballs right now.
Verlander and the Astros are so heavily favored at home for Game 1 that I cannot even believe the price I am getting to fade him again. I love fading Verlander in the World Series because he has proven he is a great fade! Some people just don’t know how to deal with certain lights being shined in their faces. These are the brightest possible lights, and just because Houston has won every game to this point, that means nothing.
Kyle Schwarber and big #3 in that lineup are seeing beach balls, and if Verlander thinks he still has the stuff to blow either of them over? Yeah, those balls will end up in downtown Houston rolling on the street when they land out of the stadium!
I have Wheeler, I’ll take the road team, and I have all of the value behind me!
Houston Astros vs Philadelphia Phillies Best Bet
I expect Game 1 to be a low-scoring game with solid pitching from two starters who have been spectacular all season. What I hope we see is a 4 – 3 game when the final out is made, and that is still a relatively low-scoring match in baseball but it’s enough to cash this over on the total.
I know folks think under all too often in these big games with nerves and the best two pitchers the teams have on the mound, but what’s that phrase? Does stuff happen? My gut tells me this game will somehow end 4 – 3, which cashes my ticket toward the 6.5 on this total.
