Oh, my, goodness! That’s right, I am starting my article today with those three words because I cannot even believe the odds we are seeing on the total for this game on Thursday afternoon.

This is the first game being played among the six overall on the slate, and who doesn’t see this pitching matchup as an opportunity to grab the cash? Chirs Sale and Spencer Turnbull are the expected starting pitchers, and they both got torched in their first start of the campaign.

Sale has an ERA of 21.00 and Turnbull has an ERA of 27.00. That about covers that!

Turnbull gave up 7 earned runs in only 2.⅓ innings pitched to the Tampa Bay Rays in his first start of the season, and he wanted to improve his stats from last year. This is his fifth season with Detroit, and each year he has brought his ERA down but has only made 21 starts over the last three seasons. Turnbull only made 9 starts last year with a 4 – 2 overall record and a decent 2.88 ERA, his best over the previous four campaigns.

Suffice it to say that it doesn’t look like we can be convinced it will all just turn around with the Red Sox in town coming off a dismal sweep at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates! Here, let me repeat it… SWEPT BY THE PIRATES!

After scoring no less than 9 runs in all three of their games against Baltimore to open the campaign, Boston totaled 8 runs in 3 days and was held to 1 run yesterday and the day before.

Boston’s pitching this year is in disaster mode already, and even though it is a small sample size of six games and about one start apiece for their starting rotation, I don’t Chris Sale as far as I can throw him. I think Turnbull and Sale might give up all 8 runs we need to cash this ticket on the total in 3-4 innings.

You know what? That 1st 5-inning line is only 4 at 1.98 if you are a Pinnacle user, so why mess with the full game total unless you want a secondary bet to put on the board?
