Colorado Rockies vs Pittsburgh Pirates Best Bet: Buccs Holding the Broom
Colorado Rockies vs Pittsburgh Pirates Best Bet: Wednesday, April 19th
The Pirates will have a broom in the locker room as they chase down the sweep of the 3-game series against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday afternoon. Our resident baseball pundit Ej Garr has his eyes on the Pirates to take the series, and it will come down to starting pitching and a hunch that the Buccs will wave that broom around with Pirate Pride before heading to Philly for four games with the Phillies through the weekend.

When you just find ways to lose constantly, the confidence level diminishes to the point it has for the Rockies entering Wednesday’s game against the Buccs. The Pirates will be playing for the series sweep over the Rockies on Wednesday afternoon, and after Tuesday’s loss, the Rockies can now find their logo at the bottom of the National League table with a 5 – 13 record!
The Rockies jumped out to an early 3 – 0 yesterday giving them hope to find a win but that lead was gone by the 4th inning and Colorado never scored another run in a 5 – 3 loss.
That makes it a 7-game losing streak for the Rockies coming into Wednesday’s early afternoon start in Denver at 1:10 p.m. (13:10 Local MDT). Kris Bryant is leading the way with his .314 batting average, and Elias Diaz is putting up some decent numbers and trying to help his pitching staff to perform a little better of late.
The Rockies rank 29th in the field because they allow 6.41 runs a game, and their opponents are smashing balls around to a clip of over a .800 OPS (28th). On top of that, the offense is simply not doing enough to make up the difference.
Who would have expected to see the Pirates in the top 10 of the HR department? I don’t mean Human Resources because we’re talking about bashing the long balls out of the park in 2023. The Buccs are averaging 1.25 bombs a show, and the Rockies are sending Austin Gomber back to the mound on Wednesday. That spells trouble because Gomber has been Bombered in all three of his starts this year, and he has recorded an average of 14 outs per game while allowing 13 earned runs in opposition.
Since you know I look around for the best value to go along with the best bet of the day, I see the 2.20 offer on Austin Gomber to allow more than 3.5 earned runs as a realistic expectation to happen. I was first thinking of suggesting that we take the Buccs to pick up the brooms and sweep the Rockies out of Denver and th Moneyline offer is fair enough at 1.91.
So, maybe you need a double-play… an around-the-horn, tailor-made grounder to short, or just a two-for-one from the Mayor of Value City!
