Kansas City sits almost 20 games behind the pack of teams in the division, and the Guardians are trying to keep pace with the Minnesota Twins at the top of the AL Central Division standings.

The Kansas City Royals will be hosts to the Cleveland Guardians through the weekend, as the two teams meet for a 4-game series before the All-Star break. The Royals could use a break but no one seems to want to work with them on that as their 25 – 62 record has them 19.5 games behind the first-place Minnesota Twins.

After getting swept by the Twins over the last three days, the Royals’ pitching staff has ultimately been a complete letdown, and Jordan Lyles is expected to start for the Royals tonight to start this series.
The Guardians now find themselves 2 games behind Minnesota as a result of that sweep of KC combined with losing two of three games to the Atlanta Braves to start the week.

At 42- 44, the Guardians might have to win the division outright to earn a playoff spot, but let’s not get too ahead of ourselves yet. There is plenty of baseball to be played, and the Guardians need to take advantage of this situation. After the Twins swept the Royals, the Guardians could do themselves a huge favour by taking 4 straight wins as momentum into the All-Star break.

Cleveland is heavily favoured to win this game on the Moneyline, so there is no value to be found there at all. In this spot, my bet builder plans have the total and the handicap as the ways to go to cash a nice ticket on Thursday. My Wednesday night odds were 3.40 and tonight’s odds fall the same for this small accumulator.

Jordan Lyles just picked up his first win of the entire campaign the last time he pitched, and ironically it came against the Tampa Bay Rays. Lyles limited the Rays to four runs and the offense came out to support him finally so he can finally get that first win of the season off his back. Amazingly, it took until June 24 to earn your first win of the campaign, but he has been out for a while too. I will be interested to see how his first start back from the illness that kept him off the field since that June 24 outing.

Lyles is expected to start against Tanner Bibee, and Bibee is currently enjoying a 3-game run of wins to his credit. It took Bibee 96 pitches to get through 5 ⅔ innings against the Cubs his last time out, but he struck out 8 Cubbies, and the 6 – 0 win certainly build on his confidence.
