I have been handicapping baseball for longer than I can even remember, but the one thing I haven’t forgotten is why I call this place Kiddie Park, Maryland. The weather is certainly one contributing factor because the ball seems to fly out of this joint when you put a couple of decent hitting teams in the park.
We have just that, as we are seeing the Jays and Birds both hitting the ball well right now so a straight 9 on this total shouldn’t be a tall order. We have seen exactly 11 runs scored in the first two games of this series and I don’t see why we shouldn’t be expecting a similar result tonight.
Of course, when you go over the rankings, the Blue Jays’ offense is up there with the best of them in batting average and runs produced this season. Toronto’s .265 team batting average is the best in baseball despite some of those nights these bats disappear. That won’t happen in Baltimore, however, so let’s break down these two starters for the game.
The Jays are sending Jose Berrios to the bump and his 8 – 4 record is respectable enough but the 5.19 ERA certainly has room for improvement. First of all, DraftKings is offering a 1.91 line on the Over 2.5 earned runs for Berrios and you better be on that like white on rice! Baltimore is playing so well and the 57 – 52 record is pretty damn good for a team that no one respects. I see so many people fading the Orioles like they have no chance to win games but they just have a team camaraderie that is hard to describe. These guys want to win together and they are having a lot of fun for a team that is out of the playoff chase this season. As you look at the game lines, Toronto is considerable favourites again tonight and I love it. Baltimore has so much value at 2.35 that it’s ridiculous!
Will Jose Berrios give up a home run? Wait, you mean just one? In this park, in this humidity against this Orioles team? You can bet your house that he will!
Baltimore is asking Dean Kremer to hold down the Jays’ bats and he too will struggle to contain that offense. I honestly think we will be looking at a cashed ticket on this Over 9 before we get near the 7th inning, much less near the end of the game.
