Leon Edwards vs Colby Covington Picks: Rocky Goes the Distance

The UFC Welterweight title is on the line this Saturday at UFC 296 as Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards makes his 2nd title defence against long-time Welterweight juggernaut Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington.

Edwards is on a 3-fight winning streak and his last 2 wins have come against Colby’s nemesis Kamaru Usman. His last fight was a decision win against the former champ where he outlanded his opponent by 120-87. Despite being taken down 4 times, Leon got up to his feet each time and controlled the flow of the fight.

Colby Covington hasn’t seen the inside of an octagon for almost 2 years. His last fight was in March 2022 against Jorge Masvidal. Covington was solid in that one, landing 94 significant strikes along with 6 takedowns, but was unable to get the finish.

Leon Edwards has the striking advantage here and his takedown defence has gotten significantly better in his 2 fights against Usman. He has been by far the more active fighter and his cardio is also at an elite level. That said, Colby has always had a solid chin and we don’t expect Edwards to be able to get the TKO early. Decision win for Edwards at 2.60 odds.

  • Selection: Edwards by Decision/T.Decision
  • Best odds: 2.60

Alexandre Pantoja vs Brandon Royval Picks: Return of the Flyweights

UFC Flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja makes his first title defence attempt at UFC 296 this weekend against the 2nd-ranked fighter in the division Brandon Royval. This will be the first title fight in the division since 2019 not to feature Deiveson Figueiredo or Brandon Moreno.

Pantoja earned his title shot earlier this year by going on a 3-fight winning streak and beating Manel Kape, Brandon Royval and Alex Perez. He then faced Brandon Moreno at UFC and beat him by split decision. An early knockdown and 6 takedowns were enough for the refs to give him the nod.

He already beat Royval once by submission 2 years ago, and his top game has gotten even better since. He has solid striking, a good chin and his takedowns are very difficult to stuff. We are backing Pantoja to make his first-ever title defence in the moneyline market.

  • Selection: Pantoja to Win
  • Best odds: 1.57

  • Stake: 2/10

Tony Ferguson vs Paddy Pimblett Picks: They Know You, Son

Our final pick of the night will feature the Lightweight bout between Tony Ferguson and Paddy Pimblett.

For anyone who thought that Tony training with David Goggins was going to be good news, you thought wrong. Tony Ferguson has been on the tail end of his career for quite some time now and it’s time to call it quits.

The UFC wants to make a star out of Paddy, and the controversial decision against Jared Gordon hasn’t helped. Now they need him to steamroll a familiar name to get him on the Lightweight rankings.

Tony’s problem was never dedication to training nor was it cardio, he was always exceptional there. His problem is leaving himself open too much and getting clipped to the chin. This is why putting his body in a meat grinder in training camp is not going to help. If anything, I expect him to come into the fight tired, injured, and in poor fighting shape.

That said, I don’t want to give Paddy too much rope here, and I’m not going to say it’s going to be a TKO or a submission. 1.66 odds on ‘Fight to go the Distance: No’ is more than enough to get our parlay to 6.77 odds at bet365.

  • Selection: Fight to Go the Distance: No
  • Best odds: 1.66
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 2/10
