Serie A Prediction: Ante-Post Outright Preview

Serie A Prediction: Ante-Post Outright Preview
Lautaro Martinez of FC Internazionale celebrates after scoring the goal of 0-4 during the Serie A football match between Frosinone Calcio and FC Internazionale at Benito Stirpe stadium in Frosinone (Italy), May 10, 2024

As Serie A’s 2024/2025 season approaches, our Italian football expert, Daniele Fisichella, has highlighted several key betting opportunities in his Serie A Prediction: Ante-Post Outright Preview.

Lautaro Martinez, fresh off a stellar 2024, is a strong contender for the top goalscorer title with Inter Milan. Roma’s substantial investments in players like Artem Dovbyk and Matías Soulé position them well for a top-four finish.

Como, bolstered by signings such as Andrea Belotti and Raphael Varane, could outperform Monza, who face uncertainty with their squad and new manager.

Lastly, Cagliari’s odds for relegation offer value, given their defensive issues and the challenges posed by a new manager and tactical changes.

Serie A 2024/25 Prediction: Roma To Finish In The Top Four

Italy, Serie A

The Giallorossi’s ambitions for the upcoming Serie A season are underscored by a significant financial outlay and strategic squad reinforcements. The club’s recent investment of approximately €100 million is a clear indication of their intent to break into the top four and secure a Champions League spot.

At the heart of Roma’s revamped squad is Artem Dovbyk, a prolific Ukrainian striker acquired from Girona for €38 million.

Dovbyk’s impressive tally of 24 goals last season in La Liga makes him a formidable addition. His ability to both finish and create plays addresses a crucial need for Roma following Romelu Lukaku’s departure. Dovbyk’s versatility, evident in his goal-scoring prowess and physical attributes, positions him as a central figure in Daniele De Rossi’s tactical plans.

Strengthening in Rome

Roma’s squad strengthening also includes the addition of Matías Soulé, a dynamic Argentine playmaker who joined from Juventus for €30 million. Soulé, who scored 11 goals and provided three assists while on loan at Frosinone last season, is expected to bring flair and creativity to Roma’s attacking play. His arrival aligns with the club’s strategic shift towards investing in young talent, complementing De Rossi’s vision of a more dynamic and fluid offensive setup.

The club’s proactive approach extends beyond these signings. With interest in players like Marc Pubill, a right-back from Almeria, and Wenderson Galeno, a winger from Porto, Roma is looking to further solidify their squad. These potential additions would enhance both their defensive solidity and attacking options, making them serious contenders for a top-four finish.

Roma has consistently improved over recent seasons, having reached two major European finals and two semi-finals in the past four years. With their current investments and De Rossi’s tactical acumen, the Giallorossi are well-positioned to challenge for a Champions League spot.

Dovbyk’s role as a central figure could be pivotal in shaping a successful season and cementing Roma’s place among Italy’s elite.

Serie A 2024/25 Prediction: Como To Finish Above Monza

Italy, Serie A

Como’s return to the top flight after 21 years is creating significant excitement.

With the club making waves with its summer signings and the appointment of Cesc Fabregas as coach, Como appears poised to outperform some of their fellow Serie A competitors, including Monza.

Como’s resurgence into Serie A is bolstered by a squad that has undergone significant investment.

Under the guidance of the Spaniard, who brings a wealth of experience from his illustrious playing career, Como has made high-profile acquisitions such as Euro 2021 winner Andrea Belotti, seasoned defenders Raphael Varane and Alberto Moreno, and veteran goalkeepers Pepe Reina and Emil Audero.

These additions not only enhance the team’s defensive and attacking capabilities but also inject much-needed experience into their ranks.

In contrast, Monza faces a more turbulent start to the season. The club has seen notable departures, including key players Michele Di Gregorio and Andrea Colpani. The loss of Di Gregorio to Juventus and Colpani’s move to Fiorentina leave Monza in search of new leaders.

Under scrutiny

Moreover, Monza’s summer transfer strategy has been cautious, focusing on re-signing familiar faces and a few targeted additions like Omari Forson.

While Stefano Sensi’s return and the acquisition of Daniel Maldini could provide a boost, the squad’s overall depth and quality are still under scrutiny.

The appointment of Alessandro Nesta as manager, while intriguing, raises questions about continuity and tactical adaptation. Nesta’s approach at Reggiana was more reactive, which may not align seamlessly with Monza’s previous proactive style under Raffaele Palladino.

Moreover as Steve Wyss pointed out in his ante-post outright bets piece, last season the Brianzoli ranked inside the bottom six for xPoints and xGA, so there could be a natural regression.

In contrast, Como’s proactive recruitment and strategic investments give them a stronger foundation to build upon.

Fabregas’s tactical acumen and the quality of new signings could help Como secure a more stable position in the league. Betting on Como to finish above Monza could be a shrewd move, given the uncertainty surrounding Monza’s squad and managerial situation compared to Como’s promising setup and solid financial backing.

Serie A 2024/25 Prediction: Cagliari To Be Relegated

Italy, Serie A

Cagliari, having narrowly escaped relegation in May, has embarked on a new campaign with the aim of avoiding another fierce battle for survival.

However, the current odds for their relegation offer a value bet that warrants serious consideration.

In the 2023/24 season, Cagliari finished in 16th place, a position that barely masks underlying concerns. Under Claudio Ranieri, the team managed to survive largely due to a potent attack, but their defensive frailties were glaring, conceding 68 goals—the fourth highest in the league, behind only the relegated Frosinone, Sassuolo, and Salernitana.

Ranieri’s pragmatic approach, which relied on collective effort rather than individual brilliance, was instrumental in securing safety. With Ranieri’s departure and Davide Nicola taking over, there are significant uncertainties.

Nicola, known for his reactive style and innovative use of space, faces the challenge of restructuring a squad already known for its defensive vulnerabilities and lack of goals.

Light up top and in defence

Last season’s top scorer, Nicolas Viola, netted just five goals, highlighting a critical need for attacking reinforcements. The departures of Nández and Sulemana have further exacerbated the problem, leaving gaps that the club must address.

Nicola is expected to implement a more aggressive pressing game and a high defensive line, but integrating new tactics with a 3-5-2 formation and new signings like Luperto and Zortea might take time.

The need for immediate adaptation and the challenge of strengthening both defense and attack could delay improvements.

The Sardinians face a tough fight for survival, with teams such as Empoli, Verona and Lecce, likely to be in the relegation mix.

However betting on Cagliari’s relegation at 2.20 is a good value due to their transition and defensive issues.

With Sir Claudio departure, Cagliari’s stability is uncertain, and they are likely to be embroiled in a tight relegation battle with these teams.

Serie A 2024/25 Prediction: Lautaro Martinez Top Goalscorer

Italy, Serie A

Lautaro Martinez is set to enter the 2024/2025 Serie A season with the momentum of a sensational year behind him, making him a prime candidate to repeat as the league’s top scorer.

The Argentine striker has enjoyed a stellar 2024, culminating in triumphs with both Inter Milan and his national team. Having clinched the Serie A title and the Italian Super Cup with Inter, Martinez also led Argentina to victory in the Copa America, finishing as the tournament’s top scorer with five goals, including the decisive strike in the final against Colombia.

Martinez’s recent contract extension with Inter underscores the club’s confidence in his abilities, reinforcing his role as a key figure for the team.

With 24 goals in Serie A last season and a total of 35 goals across all competitions, including international fixtures, Martinez has firmly established himself as one of the world’s premier strikers. His knack for scoring crucial goals, such as the one that secured the Italian Super Cup against Napoli, highlights his impact on the big occasions.

Brimming with confidence

Looking ahead to the new season, Martinez is entering it brimming with confidence and in peak form. Under the guidance of Simone Inzaghi, who has successfully harnessed his talents, and with his new contract ensuring his future at the club, Martinez is well-positioned to continue his impressive form.

His ability to deliver decisive performances, as evidenced by his quick-fire goals in the Copa America, showcases his readiness to shine again.

Given his current trajectory, physical condition, and the support of his team, Lautaro Martinez is in an excellent position to contend for the Serie A’s Top Goalscorer title once more.

With his exceptional skill and determination, it would come as no surprise to see him dominate the Italian league’s scoring charts again this season and an each-way selection represents a very good value.
