Week 8 NCAA Football Best Bets: Saturday, October 22nd
Our resident college football pundit has picked out a pair of barking dogs for Saturday’s week 8 edition of the campaign, so get the dog house ready and prepare to bark! The line setters have left some tasty prices on the board and if anyone can sniff them out it’s our Mayor of Value City who is like a hound dog in search of plus money value!

Ohio Bobcats vs Northern Illinois Huskies Preview
October 22, 19:00 (UK time)
You can’t just go by the title of Mayor of Value City without proving why you deserve the name. Hi, my name is Ej Garr and when it comes to sniffing out value, I invented it! So, as I am perusing the big board full of college football games to pick from on Saturday, I found two teams favoured that should not be garnering the chalk assignment.
This line hit me right away, and if you can tell me what the hell the Huskies are doing favoured, leave me a message below. Since I know that won’t happen, let me tell you that if you don’t think that the line setters know that the public loves to play the favs, you are already missing the point. I believe that if Ohio was favoured by the field goal, the entire planet would be on the Bobcats and we’d have no issue giving up the field goal chalk either.
Northern Illinois had lost 5 straight outings until that magical win over Eastern Michigan last weekend, 39, – 10. It was so impressive that someone forgot to tell the line setters that they still stink and they are about to get their asses handed to them at home this weekend.
Rocky Lombardi or Ethan Hampton? Who do you want to put your hard-earned money in to go out and find you a win this weekend having to win by the field goal to cover the line?
I am more impressed with Ohio who still is way up in the offensive rankings despite two outings against Penn State and Iowa State which certainly didn’t go well, to say the least. The Bobcats scored a combined 20 points against the pair of Power-5 programs, and I am not about to punish them for that. I personally have more confidence putting the dough on Ohio to pull off an upset and we need no stinkin’ points either.
Kurtis Rourke has only thrown a single interception over his last 4 games, and despite not tossing a TD pass last weekend, his dual-threat ability is helping the team move the chains and keep the offense on the field. Rourke has added 125 rushing yards and 3 scoots to the end zone to the 14 – 3 TD to INT ratio with his arm, and that gives me more confidence with where my money goes this weekend.
Ohio Bobcats vs Northern Illinois Huskies Preview
I see 2.25 showing on the Ohio Moneyline and I just dropped the gavel in the Value City courthouse!
Ohio has been an underdog 5 times in 2022, and they have come away with a win on three occasions, short of those two affairs I mentioned with Iowa State and Penn State.
- Selection: Ohio Moneyline
- Best odds: 2.25 (Pinnacle)
- Stakes: 4/10
Odds as of 9:30 am October 21st, 2022. Odds may now differ.

Wisconsin Badgers vs Purdue Boilermakers Preview
October 22, 20:30 (UK time)
The same thought ran through my mind when I saw Wisconsin favoured to beat Purdue this Saturday. What? What on God’s green earth are the Badgers doing favoured to win this football game, and how many suckers out there need to read my article‽ (I hope you like my proper use of the interrobang)
So, this is another situation where the value is on the underdog to not just cover the line but to win the game outright. Purdue doesn’t need points, the Badgers do! In fact, I will spot the Badgers the field goal and take Purdue to cover the same -2.5 Wisconsin is laying, baby!
We’re not getting the same 2.25 value we are with Ohio, but I am still looking at a 2.15 with Purdue to take this win and crush Wisconsin’s hopes of making it to bowl season. The program chasing an actual bowl invitation this weekend is Purdue, and a win over Wisconsin is surely going to mean a phone call is coming from the committee to take part in the post-season.
Have you noticed all of these streaks that are coming to an end around the landscape of college football in 2022? So many teams are doing things they have not done in years, and one thing Purdue has not been able to do is to find wins in Madison. Purdue is 3 – 0 against the spread here on their last 3 visits to the Dairy State, but they are 0 for the last 7 straight up here.
That all comes to an end on Saturday when Purdue smashes in Madison and wipes out the Badgers on their home field as +2.5 underdogs. I have two players’ names for you to watch because #16 and #15 are going to help us win this football game and the cash.
Aidan O’Connell and Charlie Jones! Jones only needs to bring in 265 more passing yards from O’Connell to reach the 1,000-yard mark, and the Boilers have a bye next weekend. There is no reason to let it all hang out and get this all-important win in the books when Wisconsin is at its weakest point in years.
Let’s make no mistake that Wisconsin was the favourites to win the Big Ten West Division this year, and there sits Illinois and Purdue atop the table. I absolutely love Purdue in this spot, and again, those favourite bettors will think there is just no way Wisconsin could lose at home! Hmm hmm, sure they can, just watch it happen on Saturday, and then you’ll know even better!

Once again, keep your stinkin’ points, we don’t need them and I don’t want them. Purdue wins outright, and you have two tickets with plus money value to make good use of. Enjoy the weekend and I’ll see you for Week 9!
