Week 12 NCAA Football Best Bets: Saturday, November 19th
The regular college football season is bringing us closer to the end of the 2022-23 campaign, as many programs will play their final games this weekend. Our resident NCAAF expert Ej Garr will be at one of the games he is featuring for this Saturday, as his Alma Mater is one of those teams playing their final regular season games. Ej has picked out two underdogs with the value behind them, so let’s see what he’s got to offer.

Army Black Knights vs UConn Huskies Preview
November 19, 17:00 (UK time)
The UConn Huskies are bowl eligible, and I have no words to convey what it means to me personally. I went to Post University in Waterbury, CT, for a year before I enrolled at UConn, and we simply did not want to bring up football lately with years of poor showings of late. And then, Jim Mora came to the rescue, and what a turnaround it has been for the Huskies this year.
Considering I have not missed a single snap of UConn football this year, what do you want to know? I have posted a betting preview for the UConn games most of the season on my site, and let’s just say I know what’s coming every weekend because I see everything. I don’t bet with my heart because that’s my former school, I bet with my brains on what I see transpire on the field.
Wait, let me repeat it… UConn is BOWL ELIGIBLE! Hey, I went through those lean years, so whatever! Now, let’s talk football, and what the hell are the line setters doing giving us 10 points? I see +11 at some sites out there with only a 1.87 attached to the action, and that’s just giving away money right there.
The Huskies were getting almost 17 points against Liberty last weekend, and the Flames had just finished going into SEC country and taking out Arkansas the weekend before. Can someone argue that Liberty didn’t get emotionally up for the game with the same attitude as they would taking on an SEC program on the road? Sure, go ahead, I will let you have that one, and I don’t care! UConn took out Liberty as huge underdogs to make sure they got Jim More his bowl game, and there is no reason to settle now.
The Knights are having one of their worst campaigns in years with only 3 wins to show for 2022, and they will still have 2 games left to play after this affair even though UConn is finished after today. This team won’t finish the regular season until December 11th when they play the heralded Army-Navy game, and Army has no chance to win the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy this time around.
Amazingly, when you look at the rankings for the UConn offense, those numbers are still so bad yet they are 9 – 2 ATS this year covering nearly every game. The Knights will make the UConn defense play to stop the run all day because that’s what Army does all day. Despite the poor 3 – 6 record, Army still ranks #2 in all of college football running for a tick under 300 YPG.

The UConn running game isn’t all that shabby themselves, however, as they rank 35th in the land which likely means the ground game is decided this contest. Which team’s offensive line can control the game will be the key, and with that being a push, for the most part, give me those points. I don’t know if you will get +10 or +11 depending on your book and when you see this article, but just take the damn points!
- Selection: UConn +10
- Best odds: 1.91 (Pinnacle)
- Stakes: 4/10

UTEP Miners vs FIU Panthers Preview
November 19, 21:00 (UK time)
Another underdog comes your way, and I am once again trying to make sense of this line between FIU and UTEP. The Panthers definitely didn’t leave a good impression on anyone getting pounded by FAU last weekend, 52 – 7, but that is what makes college football so great. It’s a week-to-week game, and the UTEP QB is likely out this weekend but yet they are laying two touchdowns with a backup? Wait, you said what?
That’s right, I am seeing Gavin Hardison likely out of this game for the Miners, and that means 60 minutes of Calvin Brownholtz calling the plays, baby! Bwin is showing +15 at 1.87 for FIU, and if you don’t play that because I told you to, well, sorry!
Brownholtz has completed 13 passes this entire campaign, although he does add the element of a ground game with his legs. However, the only touchdown to his credit in 2022 came on a broken play scramble, as he has not a single TD pass and two interceptions against him. I trust that to cover 14+ points like I trust an American politician being honest with people!
FIU will be able to neutralize wideout Tyrin Smith, as he is the only UTEP receiver that poses a big threat to the defense. Now don’t go and get stuck on those ugly stats here either. Sure, FIU on paper couldn’t stop you and me from scoring 37 points, but they’re not playing an offense with the potential to do a damn thing this weekend.
Grayson James should be able to keep the chains moving for FIU, and his dual-threat ability will be a factor as well. His November hasn’t been exactly one worth writing home to his parents about, with 4 interceptions and not a touchdown to his credit in both games this month. That will all change today, mark my words!
UTEP Miners vs FIU Panthers Best Bet
Expect another closer game that the line setters want to lead you to believe. With UTEP only having one real threat to catch a football and a backup QB, I trust FIU just a bit more to keep this game within reason. Neither team has the goods to blow the other out of the water, so I expect a close fourth quarter and a much tighter affair to take place.
- Selection: FIU +15
- Best odds: 1.87 (BWin)
- Stakes: 4/10
