Oklahoma Sooners vs Arizona Wildcats Picks: December 28th Sooners vs Wildcats Preview, Betting Odds and NCAAF Picks

Oklahoma Sooners vs Arizona Wildcats Picks: December 28th Sooners vs Wildcats Preview, Betting Odds and NCAAF Picks
IMAGO / USA TODAY Network Arizona Wildcats mascot, Wilbur, runs in the field during and game against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks.

The Oklahoma Sooners will be without their quarterback with the announcement that Dillon Gabriel is hitting the transfer portal, and that means that Jackson Arnold will suit up for the Sooners on Thursday at the Alamo Bowl.

With that news, the Arizona Wildcats arrive in San Antonio as -2.5 favourites against Oklahoma, and the line setters still expect a high-scoring Alamo Bowl game. Let’s see what our college football expert Ej Garr has to say about the proceedings as he picks out another winner for Bowl Season.

OKLAHOMA SOONERS VS ARIZONA WILDCATS PICKS AND PREDICTION

As the Oklahoma Sooners finished the regular season, their star QB Dillon Gabriel left no time to waste as he announced that he was leaving Norman to play for Oregon in 2024. Gabriel will not be a participant in the Alamo Bowl as a result, and now the Sooners are putting their faith in Jackson Arnold to call the shots.

Arnold only appeared in 5 games this season, and he has attempted a total of 24 passes in his collegiate career. That leads to plenty of unknowns for the Sooners, and bettors like me have to decipher what he can bring to the table in a showcase Bowl Game.

Senior RB Marcus Major is also leaving the program early, and concerns on the offensive line are also growing for Oklahoma. Only three starting offensive linemen remain with the team, and then we need to question their motivation to win a bowl game at all. At 10 – 2, Oklahoma didn’t even get into the Big 12 Championship Game, and now they get stuck playing an early bowl in San Antonio that doesn’t hold too much clout.

Arizona QB Noah Fifita isn’t going anywhere, and he is more than looking forward to taking on Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl this Thursday. Let’s not forget that just two years ago Arizona won only a single game, and this is the culmination of hard work and dedication to becoming a better football team.

Wildcats Head Coach Jedd Fisch was in his first season when the team finished the season at 1 – 11, and to be a 9 – 3 team playing in any bowl is a big deal for this program. Last year, the Wildcats fell one win shy of being bowl-eligible, and they left nothing to chance this year winning 9 games, and they are also riding a 6-game win streak into the Alamo Bowl.

Finishing the season 6 – 0 after a 3 – 3 start to the year gives the Wildcats the momentum they need to win this game, and the absence of Dillon Gabriel for Oklahoma will be quite significant.

I see that the line setters are about to push the line to -3, so I would get this bet in before it jumps to a point where a field goal win would end up as a pushed bet.

Tetairoa McMillan caught 80 passes and accumulated 1242 yards for the Wildcats, and he will be seeing plenty of balls from Fifita to add to those numbers. Jacob Cowing led the team with 11 TD grabs to McMillan’s 10, and Jonah Coleman only needs to pick up 149 rushing yards to become a 1000-yard rusher for the Wildcats.

I have Arizona winning this game, and I am also shocked that the Pac-12 is going to be dismantled after the season ends. So many changes are coming around the landscape of college sports, and the Pac-12 has been hit the hardest. Ironically, Arizona will be playing in the Big 12 next season and Oklahoma is the team leaving the conference.

The Sooners will be trying out life in the SEC next year, and Texas will be joining them as they both depart from the Big 12.
