Louisville Cardinals vs Boston College Eagles: BOSTON COLLEGE TO HANG TOUGH WITH LOUISVILLE
Our first selection will feature the Louisville Cardinals vs Boston College Eagles match-up.The Boston College Eagles are getting two touchdowns on Saturday as they pay the Louisville Cardinals a visit for this ACC battle. Conference play is now going to be dominating the schedules for all teams as we can finally break away from all of the non-conference nonsense that we have to deal with throughout the first month of the NCAA football campaign.
BC and Louisville have been partnered in the ACC since 2014, and the two teams have met every season since with the Mountaineers holding a 5 – 3 edge in the series. Overall, these two programs have met 15 times going back to before any of us were alive, and the series is still tight at 8 – 7 with a West Virginia edge there too.
History isn’t going to decide this or any other outcome of a football game, but I do hope we see anything close to what happened a year ago when these two teams met in Chestnut Hill. The Eagles held on to a 34 – 33 home win, and not so ironically the Eagles were getting +14 that day as well.
So much for that, as the line setters got skunked and so did anyone laying two touchdowns last year. This time around, BC has done nothing but play 3 games that all came down to the final possession, and I was impressed with the fight in the Eagles last weekend against Florida State. Boston College could have easily folded up shop when it was 27 – 16 headed to the fourth quarter, but they didn’t. The Eagles just as easily could have beaten Florida State last weekend outsourcing the Noles 13 – 0 in the final fame to only lose by two points, 31 – 29.
Louisville has also been involved with two close games that were decided by one possession, and none of us care about the 54 – 0 thumping of Murray State last weekend. That’s another example of the waste of time non-conference games can be when FCS programs land on your slate.
Anyway, I have 14 points to put in my pocket and I expect this to be a game that sees neither side leading by double-digits. Louisville will never be able to cover this outrageous line, so take advantage of it!
West Virginia Mountaineers vs Texas Tech Red Raiders: MOUNTAINEERS TO USE HOME-FIELD ADVANTAGE
We move on to the West Virginia Mountaineers vs Texas Tech Red Raiders game. The Mountaineers are also listed as underdogs on Saturday, and I am still not impressed with the body of work that Tech is putting together this season. The loss to Wyoming to open the season left a bad taste in my mouth, and then the loss to Oregon didn’t exactly shock me either, so in my mind Tech is 0 – 2. Beating Tarleton State last weekend? Excuse me while I go throw up a little!
That does nothing for any of us including the Tech confidence, but this is a game where Tech finds themselves as road favourites in an environment that will be ready to cause some problems for the visitors on Saturday.
West Virginia may have lost to Penn State to kick off the season, but there is not a damn bit of shame in that at all. Penn State is going to be giving many a Big Ten team trouble for the rest of the season, and all that loss did was get the Mountaineers ready to play big-boy football.
The absolute shutdown of Pitt last weekend in the Backyard Brawl showed me an inspired team that has no plans on losing at all this weekend.
CJ Donaldson is going to have to put together a big day on the ground for the Mountaineers because the passing game for West Virginia still has work to be done. Nicco Marchiol now has to run the offense alone because Garrett Greene is out for who knows how long at quarterback with the foot injury he sustained in the early moments of the game against Pitt last weekend. Marchiol still did enough to keep West Virginia in a position to win the game, and that Mounty defense better be ready to be a difference-maker again this weekend.
Tyler Shough may have been around college football for the last 6 years, but he has yet to prove that he is that guy who can consistently lead a team to wins. The 10 for 20 performance last weekend against that ridiculous Tarleton State defense didn’t exactly impress anyone either, so he too has a lot of questions that need to be answered.
This is a 20 – 16 game waiting to happen, as this 54.5 total is set entirely too high for you to not be betting on that too. Play the total under, and expect a tight, low-scoring game in Morgantown on Saturday.
This play, combined with the BC Eagles +14 should give you a combo with odds at about 3.72 if you can get 1.91 and 1.95 together as I have found at Bet365.
