We have arrived at week 3 of the NCAA football campaign, and our resident college pigskin pundit Ej Garr has a pair of plays picked out for Saturday. With points expected from two affairs, Ej has two totals to suggest that you put on the board to boost that bankroll over the weekend. Let’s put on the pads and take it to the gridiron for some American college football action!
First, we have a look at the Over/Under line for the Toledo Rockets vs San Jose State Spartans game, before doing the same for the Boston College Eagles vs Florida State Seminoles match-up. For more college football expert tips, visit our Expert Insights section.

Toledo Rockets vs San Jose State Spartans: ROCKETS LAUNCH RED GLARE PARTY ON SPARTY
The Toledo Rockets will welcome the San Jose Spartans to Ohio on Saturday, a game that kicks off at the stroke of midnight in the UK and 7 p.m. local time.
As I do every week in preparing for the upcoming games, I circle the plays I like and predict the lines before I see them. I called for 58 in this game, and the total is going to land right around 57 or 57.5 when game time arrives.
I hope you can get this in before the line inflates to 58 because I have a strange feeling that after reading this you’ll be putting this total on your betting card. First of all, Toledo trotted 71 points onto the scoreboard last weekend, albeit against a weaker FCS opponent that is Texas Southern.
All three of the Rockets’ QBs got to see playing time last weekend, and that is one thing that a coach loves to have at his disposal. With 27 completions from only 32 passing attempts, DeQuan Finn (16/17 – 232 yds – 3 TD), Tucker Gleason (8/11 – 90 yds – 2 TD), and Alan Richter (3/4- 49 yds) all had success as the Rockets got closer to kicking off their conference competition.
Western Michigan and Toledo start MAC play next weekend, and 8 of the last 9 games for the Rockets will be against MAC foes outside of the meeting with UMass on October 7. The Rockets are -7 point favourites to win this game at home and expect them to have plenty of success again on the offensive side of the ball against the Spartans on Saturday.
San Jose State surrendered a total of 98 points to USC and Oregon State before their cupcake game against Col Poly last weekend. Sparty busted out 59 points against the Big Sky outfit from the FCS level, and I hope that instills some confidence in Chevan Cordeiro’s offense. The Hawaii transfer threw a pair of TD passes and scooted into the end zone on his feet to tally a trio of scores, and these types of games against non-conference teams make it tougher to prepare.
These two programs have never met before, so they essentially have a week to learn everything about each other, unlike conference opponents that you see once a year. I think the fact that they have never met and only have a week to get ready spells points for us, and I see a 45 – 35 final score so when they get to 80 I won’t be shocked!
Boston College Eagles vs Florida State Seminoles: SEMINOLES OFFENSE TOO GOOD TO SLOW DOWN
I previewed the first game of the Seminoles’ season here at BettingExpert, and I also presented my Heisman winner futures article on the site. The Florida State QB got my allegiance because of the 206 starts from his offensive line returning to support him, and that he is Jordan Travis.
Let’s start with the thrashing of LSU to open the campaign, and break out the 23 for 31 with 342 passing yards along with 4 strikes to the end zone in a 45 – 24 trouncing of the Tigers… as underdogs!
Let’s slide to last weekend, and despite the 66 – 13 final score against Southern Miss last weekend, Travis really didn’t do a lot to boost his Heisman candidacy. Travis only completed 15 passes for 175 yards with a pair of TD strikes in a game you would think he would have gone bonkers looking at the scoreline. I wish he would have thrown for 565 and 8 TDs, but 2 – 0 is 2 – 0 in college football, and Florida State will take it.
I cannot even believe my eyes with a total of 48 here in this spot. This is the first ACC game for both teams and these are the games that matter in the standings. The Seminoles and Eagles are each 0 – 0 entering this game in the ACC picture so this amounts to a big game.
The line setters are expected a lopsided battle issuing the Noles as nearly 4 TD favourites on Saturday, and with a total this low I expect Florida State to hit this total by themselves. If you see the Florida State team total at 23.5 over Pinnacle for the first half and you don’t put your money on that, you should be tarred and feathered! HA!
The Seminoles will carry a 31 – 10 lead into the locker room at halftime, and there are 41 of the 48 points we’ll need to hit the outright game total.
I see Pinnacle offering 2.27 for the 1st Half Team Total of 23.5 for Florida State, which means plus-money in your pocket. They just need 24 to make that ticket golden, so please don’t hesitate to play that prop for this affair.
Together with that total in Toledo, these two games will have plenty of fireworks to cash our Saturday NCAA Football parlay at 3.64, and that on top of the first-half team total should set you up nicely for a winning weekend!
