Georgia Bulldogs vs Ohio State Buckeyes Best Bet: Saturday, December 31st

The second game of the CFP Semifinals will feature the #1 Georgia Bulldogs against the #4 Ohio State Buckeyes, and the winner of the Peach Bowl will go on to meet either TCU or Michigan in the Championship Game on January 9.

Our resident college football expert Ej Garr has been leading people to the well with his underdog mentality throughout Bowl Season, and the Bulldogs arrive at the party as nearly touchdown favourites for this contest. Did Ohio State get lucky to sneak into the #4 spot or can their coach convince them that they earned this bid in the CFP Semifinal all along? Questions, answers, big boy football!

Georgia Bulldogs vs Ohio State Buckeyes Preview

January 1, 01:00 (UK time)

It’s big boy football now, and there is nowhere to hide and nothing to leave in the tank because this will be the last time one of these two programs takes the field this campaign. The Bulldogs opened the line at -7 and as the week has progressed the line setters bought back the hook and now show -6.5 at most major sites.

I am going to go on a limb and say that many pundits see this total at 62.5 as entirely too high for such a big game. The Georgia defense is no picnic, but the problem is the last time they were on the field LSU tore them to shreds. Oh, Georgia won the SEC title game all right, and 13 – 0 doesn’t get much better but the 50 – 30 result has many folks concerned that maybe the Georgia defense will struggle on Saturday.

How could that happen? Oh, my, goodness, have you seen the Ohio State Buckeyes offense yet? Those 44.5 points per game have Ohio State ranked 2nd in the land, and their defense needs to be in this conversation as well. The Buckeyes only allowed 19.3 PPG good enough to be ranked 13th in college football, so expecting a shootout could be a tall order here.

Hey, I love offense and shootouts as much as the next guy, but just because Georgia let LSU have some fun in the SEC title game, doesn’t mean it will carry over to this game on Saturday. If the Georgia defense wants to shut you down, guess what? GOOD LUCK!!

The challenge of getting a stout Buckeye offense to succumb to your intensity makes a defensive coordinator and head coach more excited than a 51 – 50 game would make no mistake about it. Especially these two head coaches who want nothing more than to shut their opponents down while doing enough on offense to win the game.

Georgia QB Stetson Bennett is as solid as they come, and he will certainly not do anything to force the issue where turnovers come into play. I highly doubt he will make the mistake of squeezing in passes in tight windows because he’s not that guy. Bennett will tuck a ball into his arms and take off to move the chains before he’ll toss up a 50 / 50 ball, and that is not the worst trait to have. It wins games, and it keeps the chains moving so Ohio State will have its hands full all day.

Buckeye QB CJ Stroud doesn’t have any issue being a pocket passer, and we know we won’t see plays designed for him to run the ball at all. It’s not who he is but 37 touchdown passes and a pair of 1,000-yard receivers relieves that pressure.

Marvin Harrison Jr. (1,157) and Emeka Egbuka (1,039) have combined for 21 strikes in the end zone, and they have their mail sent there back at the Shoe. There is a post office box with #18 and #2 in the end zone waiting for them to get there every Saturday!

Georgia Bulldogs vs Ohio State Buckeyes Best Bet

This doesn’t give me the shootout feel to this game, as I see a low-scoring first half because the defenses will want to puff out their chests early. I expect this to be a tight game throughout, neither team will lead by double-digits so I will take that +7 at 1xBet with 1.87 attached to the action.

  • Selection: Ohio State +7
  • Best odds: 1.87 (1xBet)
  • Stakes: 4/10

Odds as of 9:00 am December 30, 2022. Odds may now differ.
