La Liga’s European places are yet to be decided as we reach the final eight matches and so our expert Nathan Joyes has provided his Betis vs Villarreal Best Bet, team news, lineups and fixtures preview.

Betis battled bravely to claim a point last weekend against Barcelona, extending their unbeaten run to eight matches across all competitions. Now level with Villarreal on 48 points, the hosts head into this key clash with the best form in La Liga over the last five fixtures.

Villarreal’s 0-0 draw with Bilbao keeps them in 5th spot but they’ll know they can’t afford to lose at Estadio Benito Villamarin this weekend. Having lost the reverse fixture, there’s no surprise to see Villarreal head into this fixture as the underdogs.

Betis vs Villarreal Prediction: Hosts to move into 5th spot

Spain, La Liga, Sunday, April 13th, 17:30 (UK)

Betis are flying. Unbeaten in their last eight, including a win against Real Madrid and draw with Barcelona, Manuel Pellegrini is turning his team into a winning machine at just the right time.

Having collected 13 points from a possible 15 in recent weeks, Betis have also been very strong at home in La Liga, having won four of their last five (W4 D1). Wins against Real Sociedad, Las Palmas and Sevilla have lifted Betis into 6th spot – but Pellegrini will know his team are capable of more.

The addition of Colombian forward Chucho Hernandez has given them a much needed boost in front of goal, and the former Columbus Crew player has scored in two of his last three matches – including the winners against both Leganes and Sevilla.

Isco was suspended for the trip to Barcelona but returns for this match against Villarreal, who will line up alongside Harnendez, Antony and Pablo Fornals as the four who’ll operate in the final third – stopping all of those will be a difficult task for the visitors.

Villarreal head into this fixture having lost just one of their last five on the road (W3 D1 L1) but a rather kind run saw them pick up expected victories against Las Palmas and Getafe. Trips to Bilbao and San Sebastian prior to those results saw Villarreal lose to both Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociead without scoring.

They do have the 2nd best away record in La Liga, but with trips to Betis and Barcelona still to be played, they may soon slide down that particular table.

But there’s too many positives in favour of the hosts to suggest they shouldn’t be priced as big as 2.375 to pick up all three points. On-loan centre-back Natan scored the equaliser against Barcelona and won the player of the match award, while the centre-midfield pairing of Sergi Altimira and Johnny Cardoso is certainly catching the attention of other European clubs.

Pellegrini is a winner and his side is not only playing some of the best football in Spain, but are showing that they have what it takes to claim a Champions League spot within the next month.

Betis won the reverse fixture 2-1 despite having 10 men for over an hour, and although Vitor Roque has moved on, the addition of Hernandez is the perfect replacement.

Betis vs Villarreal Injuries, Team News and Possible Lineups

Betis welcome back the suspended Isco who Pellegrini will place back in the no.10 role. The former Real Madrid player has been one of their main stars this season, scoring six goals and providing four assists in just 14 La Liga appearances.

Forward Adbe Ezzalzouli hasn’t recovered from his ankle injury in time to return to the squad, while Marc Roca remains Betis’ only long-term player who won’t be back this season.

Villarreal will be without Pape Gueye who was sent off in their recent 0-0 draw against Athletic Bilbao. The central midfielder has made 26 La Liga appearances – scoring two goals – but has now two red cards to his name this season.

The visitors will be relying on Ayoze Perez to help get them on the scoresheet, having scored 12 goals in 22 appearances. The former Newcastle forward will likely line up alongside Thierno Barry.

Betis possible starting lineup:
Adrian; Rodriguez, Llorente, Bartra, Sabaly, Cardoso, Fornals, Rodriguez, Antony, Isco, Hernandez

Villarreal possible starting lineup:
Reis; Cardona, Costa, Foyth, Femenia, Baena, Comesana, Parejo, Buchanan, Barry, Perez
