Lille vs Real Madrid Prediction 1: Lille can at least get on the scoresheet
UEFA Champions League, Wednesday 2nd October 20:00 (UK)
Lille have only failed to score in two matches this season, away to St Etienne and in their Champions League opener away to Sporting. That match was mightily affected by the early red card to Angel Gomes though and Les Dogues were always going to struggle after his dismissal. This is a big occasion for them at home to Real Madrid and everyone will be fired up. The Spaniards are deserving favourites but Lille should at least have a go and they can be encouraged by how Stuttgart took the game to the defending champions in round one.
Real Madrid were perhaps fortunate to win 3-1 and the xG numbers for that game were 2.46 vs 1.69. Los Blancos conceded 17 shots and were fortunate not to concede more goals. Thibaut Courtois had a strong game but he probably won’t play here due to injury. Andriy Lunin is a very able deputy in goal, but can’t pull off some of the world class saves which Courtois can. Real Madrid have drawn 3 out of 4 away games this season, with only one clean sheet which was at Real Sociedad. Lille can take heart from that fact and getting on the scoresheet seems possible for Les Dogues.
It would be a surprise if the French side kept Real Madrid from netting, even if the visitors will be without Kylian Mbappe. Lille have conceded 11 goals in their last 6 games and this is a very tough matchup for them. BTTS yes stands out at 1.80 as a decent bet though because Real will have their sloppy moments at the back which Lille can take advantage of.
- Lille vs Real Madrid Prediction 1: BTTS yes (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.80
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 7/10
Lille vs Real Madrid Prediction 2: Bellingham’s time to shine again
Jude Bellingham scored 23 goals for Real Madrid last season in all competitions but has yet to get off the mark this term. He has missed some matches with injury but the introduction of Kylian Mbappe into the Real Madrid side means he’s been used in a deeper role this year. There has been less pressure on him to chip in with goals, whereas last season he was effectively playing in the shadow striker role a lot. He should now revert back to that position whilst Mbappe is injured and he could play a prominent part in the offense.
In the Madrid derby at the weekend Bellingham had two shots with one on target. That was facing one of the top sides in La Liga away from home and this is a softer fixture which Real should dominate. Jude is 2.87 to score anytime which certainly has some appeal. He will be desperate to open his account for the campaign and we might see a version of him which was more widespread this time last year. Taking Bellingham to have over 1.5 shots on target looks like a value bet at 3.25. He averaged 1.36 SOT per game last season and in a more offensive position as a shadow striker the opportunities will be there.
- Lille vs Real Madrid Prediction 2: Jude Bellingham to have over 1.5 shots on target (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 3.25
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 4/10
Lille vs Real Madrid Prediction 3: Andre to maintain card streak
This is only a small bet but it must be noted that Lille midfielder Benjamin Andre has received a booking in all of his last four competitive games. This isn’t too much of a surprise, this is a player who racked up double digit cards in 3 of his last 4 seasons and is well known for his booking accumulation. His task playing in defensive midfield is going to be to mop up a lot of times here and he will be under significant pressure from a top team. The referee for this game is Italian Maurizio Mariani who averages five cards per game this season and 4.75 in his career for Champions League matches.
This is going to be a very difficult match for the former Rennes player. He’s going to be facing a star studded midfield including the likes of Tchouameni, Bellingham, Valverde and Modric. It’s hard to envisage him playing a clean game and at the very least will probably commit multiple fouls. Andre averages 1.20 fouls per game in Ligue 1 but committed three offenses vs Sporting in matchday one and earned himself a yellow card. He will be keen to avoid a suspension down the line but he can afford another card before that happens. Odds of 3.10 look too big to refuse on a man who is set to significantly test the referee.
- Lille vs Real Madrid Prediction 3: Benjamin Andre to be carded (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 3.10
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 2/10

Lille vs Real Madrid Injuries, Team News and Possible Lineups: Angel Gomes & Mbappe both ruled out
England international Angel Gomes is suspended after being sent off in Lisbon against Sporting. Lille have long term injuries to the likes of Bentaleb & Umtiti, whilst the duo of Ismaily at left back and utility player Hakon Haraldsson are unlikely to feature.
Kylian Mbape will not be making the trip to his homeland with a hamstring injury keeping him out for a few weeks. Dani Ceballos, David Alaba and Brahim Diaz are also on the treatment table. First choice keeper Thibaut Courtois is highly doubtful with a groin injury which could see him ruled out until after the international break. Ukrainian international Andriy Lunin should get the start in between the sticks.
Lille possible starting lineup:
Chevalier, Gudmundsson, Alexsandro, Diakite, Santos, Andre Gomes, Benjamin Andre, Sahraoui, Cabella, Zhegrova, David
Real Madrid possible starting lineup:
Lunin, Mendy, Rudiger, Militao, Carvajal, Tchouameni Modric, Valverde, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo
Match OPTA Stats: Lille looking to end Real Madrid’s unbeaten run
- Lille and Real Madrid have never previously faced off in European competition; LOSC have only won one of their last nine major European meetings with Spanish sides (D3 L5), although that was their most recent, a 2-1 win at Sevilla in this competition in 2021-22.
- Real Madrid have lost both of their last two UEFA Champions League away games against French sides without scoring, both against PSG in 2019 (0-3) and 2022 (0-1).
- Lille have won seven of their eight home games in European competition since the start of last season, the only exception being a 1-1 draw with Sturm Graz in last season’s UEFA Conference League.
- Real Madrid are unbeaten in their last 14 UEFA Champions League matches (W10 D4). They last had a longer unbeaten run between April 2016 and May 2017 (15 in a row).
- Lille have lost their last three UEFA Champions League matches (both last 16 games in 2021-22, MD1 this season). Only once have they lost four in a row, losing their first four games in the 2012-13 campaign.
- Luka Modric became the first 39-year-old to appear in the UEFA Champions League for Real Madrid, coming on as a sub against Stuttgart and assisting their second goal. Also coming on for his debut was 18-year-old Endrick, with Modric and Endrick separated in age by 20 years and 315 days – the biggest gap between two players playing for Real Madrid in a UEFA Champions League game.
- 18-year-old Endrick scored on his UEFA Champions League debut for Real Madrid as a late substitute against Stuttgart on MD1. At the age of 18 years and 73 days on the day of this game, he could be the youngest player to score in his first two Champions League appearances; the current youngest is Karim Benzema (18 years, 281 days in 2006 with Lyon).
