Matthew O’Regan is on hand with his Arsenal vs PSG prediction, team news and line ups preview. Both sides opening games were low-scoring, cagey affairs, but this match has the makings of a classic. It should be a feisty game, with plenty of attacking opportunities for PSG.

  • Arsenal vs PSG Tip 1: Over 4.5 cards
  • Arsenal vs PSG Tip 2: Joao Neves assist
  • Arsenal vs PSG Tip 3: Bradley Barcola over 1.5 shots

Arsenal vs PSG  Prediction 1: Cards Galore

England, Champions League, Tuesday, October 1st , 20:00  (UK)

Arsenal made the headlines for all the wrong reasons with their second yellow card of the Premier League against Manchester City. After receiving a yellow card for a cynical tug in the first half, Leonardo Trossard was shown a second yellow for ‘delaying the restart.’

This was the case a few weeks prior, with Declan Rice sent off for the same reason, The Gunners often turn to the ‘dark arts’ to help see out tough games – this has led to their games being high carding.

Arsenal games have averaged 6.33 cards, with their last four Premier League games seeing 6,9,8,7 cards. Their opening two games against Wolves (four cards) and Aston Villa (four cards) are the only Premier League games that have not seen over 4.5 cards.

PSG games are averaging 4.33 cards, with all bar two of their Ligue 1 games seeing at least five cards. Luis Enrique’s side are only averaging 1.33 cards per game, but draw a league-high 3.00 per game.

Refereeing this game is Slavko Vincic. The Slovenian has shown five and four cards so far this season.

  • Arsenal vs PSG Prediction 1: Over 4.5 cards

Arsenal vs PSG Prediction 2: Portuguese wonderkid

Joao Neves has been in stellar form for PSG since signing from Benfica in the summer. The 20-year-old  has been playing in a midfield three with the skilful Warren Zaire-Emery and the powerful runner Fabian Ruiz.

In just 438 minutes of Ligue 1 football, Neves has registered five assists, averaging 1.03 assists per 90. He is also averaging 2.47 chances created per 90.

The Portuguese midfielder is very intelligent and has become renowned for his link-up with winger Bradley Barcola on the left-hand side of the Parisian attack. His quick and intricate passes often open up space in between the fullbacks.

Neves has also registered a few assists from crosses this season, as well as averaging 0.62 successful crosses. If PSG are to break down a stubborn Arsenal defence, it may well be from some magic from the Portuguese maestro.

  • Arsenal vs PSG Prediction 2: Joao Neves assist
  • Best Odds: 8.00
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 4/10

Arsenal vs PSG Prediction 3: Brilliant Barcolo

Barcola was signed last summer after an impressive few years at Lyon, representing a new-look, youthful PSG side. The 22-year-old had four goals and seven assists in 25 Ligue 1 appearances last season but has taken his game to a new level this year.

The inclusion in France’s Euros squad seems to have given Barcola newfound confidence. PSG’s left winger has six goals in just 376 minutes of Ligue 1 football, averaging 1.44 shots per 90.

PSG’s attacking style of play suits Barcola to a tee. He is averaging 4.07 shots and 1.91 shots on target per 90. Despite a small sample size, that is an improvement on last season’s 1.81 per 90.

Luis Enrique’s side will be up for this game and look to attack Arsenal from the off. If they do, Barcola should have plenty of shooting opportunities.

  • Arsenal vs PSG Prediction 3: Bradley Barcola over 1.5 shots
  • Best Odds: 1.83
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 10/10

Arsenal vs PSG Injuries, Team News and Possible Lineups: Injury Issues Persist

Both sides are stricken with injuries heading into this game. Oleksandr Zinchenko has played just 79 minutes this season and is missing with a calf injury. Ben White has missed the last two matches with an injury, so is also a doubt. Mikel Merino, Kieran Tierney, Martin Ødegaard, and Takehiro Tomiyasu are also missing with injuries.

PSG were two subs short in their 3-1 win over Rennes as their injury problems mount up. Marco Asensio, Nuno Mendes, Lucas Hernandez, Pascal Kimpembe, Desire Doue, Vitinha and Goncalo Ramos are missing through injuries, so expect a threadbare squad to travel to London. Ousmane Dembele is also left out due to disciplinary issues.

Arsenal possible starting lineup:
Raya; Calafiori, Gabriel, Saliba, Timber; Rice, Partey; Saka, Trossard, Martinelli; Havertz

PSG possible starting lineup:
Safonov; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Beraldo; Zaire-Emery, Neves, Ruiz; Muani, Lee; Barcola

Match OPTA Stats: Tough to split

  • Arsenal are unbeaten in their previous four meetings with Paris SG in European competition (W1 D3). Indeed, the French side have played more games against the Gunners without winning (4) than against any other opponent in European competition.
  • Paris SG have lost each of their last three away games against English sides in the UEFA Champions League, losing twice to Manchester City (both in 2021). and once to Newcastle last season. Their 1-4 defeat at St. James’ Park last term was their heaviest away defeat to an English opponent in European competition.
  • Arsenal’s previous home game against a French side in the UEFA Champions League was a 6-0 victory over Lens in last season’s group stage. The Gunners were 4-0 up after 27 minutes in that game, while it remains the biggest ever win by an English team over a French opponent in European competition.
  • Mikel Arteta will be the sixth different Spanish manager that Luis Enrique has faced in the UEFA Champions League. The current Paris SG boss has won five of his last six such matches (L1), and beaten each of the previous five Spaniards he’s faced in the competition at least once (Pep Guardiola, Unai Emery, Xavi, Imanol Alguacil and Míchel).
  • Arsenal failed to score in their final UEFA Champions League game of 2023-24 (0-1 v Bayern Munich) and their opening game of 2024-25 (0-0 v Atalanta). They’ve never previously failed to score in three consecutive matches in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League.
