Kicking off this season’s Champions League,  Matthew O’Regan has his Juventus vs PSV prediction, team news and lineups preview. Thiago Motta is having his first foray into European football as a manager and faces a tough test at home to last year’s Eredivisie runaway champions.

Juventus vs PSV Prediction 1: Timid Juve

Italy, Champions League, Tuesday, September 17th, 17:45 (UK)

After a stellar season as manager of Bologna, leading the underdogs to fifth place and a Champions League finish, Thiago Motta was appointed as manager of Juventus as the Old Ladies look to go in a new direction after parting company with Massimilano Allegri.

The 42-year-old is a highly-rated manager, displaying tactical nous and versatility. Juventus are unbeaten in their four games under him. He started with back to back 3-0 wins, at home to Como and away to Verona respectively. This was followed up with a 0-0 draw at home to AS Roma and away to Empoli.

There seems to be a hint of pragmatism with Motta’s playstyle, with Juve yet to concede this season as Motta looks to slowly work himself into the managers role.

This season, Juventus have averaged 11 shots per game, having 13,8,8,15 shots.

PSV stormed to the Eredivisie title last season, gaining 91 points in just 34 games dropping only eight points all season. This campaign, they’ve started in the same vein, winning all five games. Peter Bosz’ side started the campaign with a 5-1 win over Waalwijk, before a 1-3 win at Heracles.

A 7-1 win at Almere City followed, before 3-0 and 2-0 home wins over Go Ahead Eagles and Nijmegen respectively. In these games, Eindhoven have been defensively resolute, conceding 9, 6, 3, 8, 2 shots for an average of just 5.6 shots per game.

While it is hard to compare the quality of the Eredivisie and Serie A, Juventus’ line looks high, considering they are yet to hit this line all season.

  • Juventus vs PSV Prediction 1:Under 15.5 shots for Juventus (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.72
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 10/10

Juventus vs PSV Prediction 2: Time for Til

While Juventus are yet to concede this season, PSV are potent in attack, scoring in every game last season, averaging 3.26 goals. This campaign, they are averaging four goals a game.

Due to Juventus’ resolute defensive record, PSV goalscorers are priced quite high, so there is value to be had.

Guus Til is now in his third season at PSV, having joined from Feyenoord in 2022 after a 21-goal season from midfield. In his first season in Eindhoven, the 26-year-old scored 13 goals in games, scoring 0.46 goals per 90 in the league.

The next season saw Til scored 10 goals in 23 league starts, averaging 0.44 goals per 90. The Dutch international has started this campaign in fine fromm scoring three goals and registering two assists in three starts, averaging 0.82 goals per 90, from 3.28 shots and 2.74 shots per 90.

At odds of 6.50, Til looks a hefty price to continue his goalscoring record.

  • Juventus vs PSV Prediction 2: Guus Till to score
  • Best Odds: 6.50
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 5/10

Juventus vs PSV Prediction 3: Shots for Veerman

Joey Veerman endured a tough summer at the Euros for Netherlands, even being subbed off after just 35 minutes in the defeat to Austria. The 25-year-old has bounced back, contributing five goals already this season for PSV, adding to last seasons 26.

Sitting in a midfield three with Guus Til and Jerdy Schouten, Veerman is an all-round midfielder, possessing tremendous technical ability, as well as tenacity defensively. He is also trusted with free kicks.

This season, Veerman is averaging 3.12 shots per game and 1.56 shots on target. Last season, Veerman averaged 2.19 shots per 90 in the Eredivisie.

After failing to have a shot in the opener, Veerman then had five shots and three on target in the 1-3 win at Heracles, before having four in the victory over Go Ahead Eagles. His last game saw him have a 2-0 win over NEC Nijmegen.

  • Juventus vs PSV Prediction 3: Joey Veerman over 1.5 shots
  • Best Odds: 3.00
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 5/10
