Vitoria vs Fluminense Prediction: Team News and Lineups Preview
The Brasileirão relegation scrap is far from over for many teams, and South American expert Nathan Joyes provides his Palmeiras vs Fortaleza prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview.
Fluminense’s back-to-back-to-back wins have pulled them out of the bottom four but one wrong result and they are very much back in the dog fight. Vitoria are in a similar situation, where their recent home form has kept their heads above water.

Vitoria vs Fluminense Prediction 1: Great escape is on
Brazil, Brazil Serie A, Saturday, October 26th, 20:30 (UK)
Three consecutive wins to nil have pulled Fluminense out of the relegation zone and into 11th spot – four points clear of the drop. The wins against Cruzeiro and Flamengo were standout results, but their 1-0 victory against Athletico PR was more dogged than anything else.
However, we also have to factor in that all of these results were at the Maracana, a venue where they have flourished this season. On the road, they have lost six of their last eight – and one of those wins was against Flamengo, where they were technically the “away” side.
Vitoria are a team fighting for their lives. Having achieved back-to-back promotions, it wasn’t long ago they were in Serie C – and despite jumping up the ladder quicker than they would have thought, they’ve shown to be competitive at this level.
Three home wins from their last five (W3 D1 L1) have all been rather similar to the work Fluminense have been carrying out at the Maracana. All wins have been 1-0, proving extremely difficult to break down.
Within those wins, Vitoria have only had four shots on target against them. Flu may have picked up of late, but their away performances have left a lot to be desired. Vitoria are fighting, but also winning, and they can “shock” the Libertadores champions on home soil.

Vitoria vs Fluminense Prediction 2: Home banker
Many predicted Vitoria to finish rock bottom after their promotion, but here they are after 30 matches out of the relegation zone – albeit on goal difference. However, they definitely would have taken this situation before a ball was kicked. But now it is all about survival, and that mode has certainly kicked in at home.
They may have the fourth worst record over the course of the season, but it’s the last few weeks where they have shown gritty performances that have been worthy of collecting the three points.
Forward Alerrandro is their shining light with seven league goals, and they do rely on him to score, but Fluminense are also in a similar position. The Libertadores champions have continuously put pressure on 18-year-old Kaua Elias to lead the line, and as his goals have dried up, they have struggled to score – especially on their travels.
This looks set to be a cagey match, but one that Vitoria can’t afford to lose – but they’ve not looked nervous in recent weeks, and have managed to get over the line in front of their own fans.
It won’t be a classic or high scoring encounter, but let’s not forget Vitoria beat Fluminense 1-0 in the reverse leg, and were far from intimidated by their opponents.
- Vitoria vs Fluminense Prediction 2: Vitoria double chance, 1-3 goal range
- Best Odds: 2.05

Vitoria vs Fluminense Prediction 3: Stalemate at the break
With Vitoria’s last three wins at home coming by a single goal margin, and with Fluminense in a similar situation, the half-time draw at slightly odds-on appeals. It’s been a busy period for the visitors, and with an ageing squad, they aren’t going to be taking the game to their opponent’s in the first 45 minutes.
In fact, a draw might suit them after a manic period where they have secured key wins. Fluminense haven’t won four in a row all year, and it’ll take something special for them to achieve that completely out of the blue.
Three of Vitoria’s last five home matches have been a draw at half-time, where it would have been four if it wasn’t for Gustavo Mosquito’s 49th minute penalty deep into added time.
All of Fluminense’s last seven matches, both home and away, have been 0-0 at half-time. Mano Menezes prefers his team to exploit potential weaknesses in the second period, rather than be chasing the game at the break. His conservative approach can see us rewarded here.
The reverse fixture half-time result, you ask? You shouldn’t be surprised with my answer. 0-0.
