The Brasileirão action returns this weekend and South American expert Nathan Joyes provides his Juventude vs Fluminense prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview.

Juventude arguably welcomed the international break after two poor results, whereas Fluminense will have to deal with life after Andre, as he completed his move to Wolves.

The hosts have been incredibly strong at home since promotion, and while Flu won last time out on the road, they’ll have one eye on their Copa Libertadores quarter-final match next week.

  • Juventude vs Fluminense Tip 2: Juventude Double Chance & Over 1.5 Goals

Juventude vs Fluminense Prediction 1: Stick with the hosts

Brazil, Brazil Serie A, Sunday, September 15th, 20:00 (UK)

Juventude have hit their first blip of the season but have the perfect scenario presented to them this weekend to get back on track.

After a 3-1 defeat to Internacional and a 0-0 draw with Cuiaba, Juventude return home where they have only lost two matches all season. They face a Fluminense side that has only picked up just 10 points from their 12 matches on the road, where they have only scored seven goals.

Juventude have picked up 22 in front of their fans – the same as Bragantino and more than Corinthians, Atlético Mineiro and Fluminense themselves.

With league wins over Botafogo, Flamengo and Gremio, this is a team that has found its stride since promotion to Serie A.

Fluminense have their quarter-final tie with Atletico Mineiro three days after this match. With that taking priority, expect Mano Menezes to make plenty of changes. One change out of his hands is Andre, who was sold on deadline day to Wolves.

Without him, the midfield has been massively weakened. How they navigate without him will be incredibly tough. With the changes and away form, Juventude looks a big price on the Asian Handicap line.

Juventude vs Fluminense Prediction 2: Visitors won’t win

As I’ve mentioned above, Juventude have only lost two games at home since their promotion – and both have been against teams towards the bottom of the table.

They seem to relish facing the “big teams” having beaten Flamengo, Gremio and Botafogo, as I alluded to earlier. They’ve also only failed to score at home once, when they shared a decent looking 0-0 draw with Sao Paulo.

Two goals scored against Flamengo, Corinthians, Gremio and Botafogo shows how direct and attacking they are at home – and most teams seemingly can’t cope with it.

Their aggressive approach has rewarded them with goals, and although they’ve secured four clean sheets from 12 matches, most have been against teams you’d expect.

Juventude’s last five home matches have seen over 2.5 goals landed in each of them, and over 3.5 in three of them. Clean sheets are rare at present for the hosts, but so are defeats.

With their current price so big, we can take some added protection as we hope to land yet another tracked pick on my columns.

  • Juventude vs Fluminense Prediction 2: Juventude Double Chance & Over 1.5 Goals (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.30

Juventude vs Fluminense Prediction 3: Goals firmly on the table

Following on from the second betting tip, watching Juventude at home is the perfect team to start watching if you are new to Brazilian football. An 8pm kick-off on a Sunday evening – which will be live on bet365 – is a great way to finish the week (and win some extra £).

Juventude’s all out attack approach caught teams off guard when they were first promoted, which is why they have been so successful this season. However, that approach can’t last the whole Brazilian calendar – one of the more intense in world football.

This is why we have seen them fail to keep a clean sheet in any of their last five home games. Tired legs late on are their current downfall, and even if Flu rotates, players like John Kennedy will relish facing a fragile defence.

Flu have scored in four of their last five away games, including a brilliant 2-0 win away to Atletico Mineiro – and they can continue to produce in front of goal on Sunday evening.

Juventude vs Fluminense Injuries, Team News and Possible Lineups: No more Andre for visitors

Wolves signed Fluminense’s Andre and brought him to the Premier League on deadline day, much to the disappointment of Tricolor’s supporters. His departure looked inevitable, but he leaves behind a huge hole to fill.

Alexsander, who was meant to be Andre’s replacement, moved to Saudi earlier in the window and Menezes has a tricky task to figure out what his midfield will look like for the second part of the season.

Star striker Kaua Elias may only be 18, but he’s proven to be the club’s best hope when it comes to finding the back of the net. However, he may be rested for their Libertadores tie next week. The return of John Kennedy looks likely.

Juventude possible starting lineup:
Gabriel; Ruschel, Ze Marcos, Boza, Lucas, Carlos, Jadson, Vieira, Barbosa, Farias, Morales

Fluminense possible starting lineup:
Fabio; Silva, Melo, Santos, Keno, Bernal, Martinelli, Guga, Lima, Serna, Kennedy

Match Stats

  • Juventude beat 3-2 at home earlier in the season in the Copa do Brasil.
  • Juventude have only lost two matches at home this campaign.
  • Fluminense have lost three of their last five away games in all competitions.
