Gremio vs Flamengo Prediction 1: Back an early goal
Brazil, Brazil Serie A, Sunday, September 22nd, 22:30 (UK)
Gremio are three points above the relegation zone but do have a couple of games in hand to give themselves further breathing room.
Flamengo, on the other hand, are bottling their title race and without top goalscorer Pedro, they look in danger of finishing the season with nothing. The Brazilian striker has scored 34 goals for them, and now Tite’s side look lost.
With one eye (perhaps two) on their Copa Libertadores quarter-final second leg against Penarol, Gremio will look to strike early and claim three valuable points.
That’s exactly what they’ve done in their last two matches, albeit without winning. They raced into an early 2-0 lead against Mineiro, despite having Gustavo Martins sent off within ten minutes.
Next, on the road they scored first against Bragantino before drawing 2-2. Their rapid “out the blocks” style has seen them be rather dangerous in the first 45 minutes – and Flamengo’s hectic schedule gives them an advantage.

Gremio vs Flamengo Prediction 2: Both teams to suffer
Three of Gremio’s last five matches have seen both teams find the back of the net and there’s reason to believe this one will follow suit.
At the time of writing, Flamengo have lost four of their last five games across all competitions, including a 4-1 defeat to Botafogo, as well as a 2-1 loss to relegation-threatened Corinthians.
Defending hasn’t come easy to Tite’s side of late, who seem to be struggling with the amount of games they are playing. Fighting across three tournaments is taking its toll.
Gremio have brought in Martin Braithwaite to lead the line, who has done an excellent job so far. The former Barcelona forward has brought that added bit of experience required to keep them up, but he’s still a handful despite being 33 years old.
Expect the visitors to rotate and look disjointed, and that will bring about chances for the hosts to grab a goal.
Flamengo won the reverse leg 2-1, and that result may well be repeated on Sunday evening.

Gremio vs Flamengo Prediction 3: Big goalscorer bet
Although Gustavo Nunes has moved on and signed for Brentford in the Premier League, Gremio have brought in an adequate replacement.
Miguel Monsalve was signed from Colombian outfit Independiente Medellin, who has found his feet from the first whistle in Brazil. With three league goals to his name from just six matches, the creative midfielder knows where the back of the net is.
Able to operate between the lines, the 20-year-old has built a good relationship with Braithwaite, who’s excellent hold up play allows Monsalve to advance in attacking positions.
With eyes on Braithwaite and Yeferson Soteldo, Monsalve has been given a free role to move in the no.10 position. With Flamengo expected to rotate, and with older players coming in such as David Luiz, Monsalve will back himself to get in behind once more.
- Gremio vs Flamengo Prediction 3: Miguel Monsalve to score anytime
- Best Odds: 6.50
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 3/10
