Inter Milan vs Feyenoord Prediction - Champions League
After securing a 2-0 advantage in the first leg, the Italian champions are in a commanding position to progress to the quarter-finals. However, the unpredictability of Champions League nights means that the tie is anything but settled.
Our Italian football expert Daniele Fisichella has previewed Inter Milan vs Feyenoord.
Inter Milan vs Feyenoord Prediction: It won’t be all rosy for the Scudetto holders
Champions League, Round of 16, Second leg, Tuesday, March 11th, 20:00 (UK)
In the first leg, the Nerazzurri displayed a controlled performance at the De Kuip, managing to secure a crucial victory with minimal effort.
What has truly been remarkable about Inter’s current European campaign is their defensive resilience. Simone Inzaghi’s men have recorded eight clean sheets out of their nine Champions League matches thus far and eight for average number of shots faced (11.4) in the competition.
However, despite their impressive European form, Inter’s recent domestic outing served as a reminder of the unpredictability of football.
Facing bottom-of-the-table Monza at the weekend expectations were of a comfortable win. Yet, Inter had to come back from 2-0 down to secure the success.
But make no mistake, for Feyenoord’s task at hand is colossal.
Historically, only nine teams in the Champions League’s history have overturned a first-leg home defeat to prevail over two legs.
The Dutch’s defensive fragility away from home adds to their concerns. In fact Feyenoord have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 15 away European matches, and they have conceded an average of 2.2 goals per game in this period.
Having allowed 33 goals, including the 2021/2022 Conference League final, their defence will need to be at its absolute best to contain Inter’s attack.
Despite such struggles, Feyenoord have shown an ability to find the back of the net in away fixtures, like they did in recent triple-goal hauls against Girona, Benfica, and Manchester City.
Inzaghi has excelled in setting up an organised and disciplined defence, with his team maintaining clean sheets in over 60% of their Champions League matches—a record unmatched by any manager with at least 30 games in the competition.
Notably, the visitors have a slight advantage, with the luxury of a weekend without competitive engagement, allowing them to rest and prepare for this crucial fixture.
Inter’s clean sheets record a challenge for Robin van Persie’s men, though the odds suggest there could be value in wagering on both teams to score.
Given Inter’s immaculate home defensive record, the prospect of Feyenoord scoring even with a +1.5 Asian Handicap remains a tantalising possibility.

Inter Milan vs Feyenoord Team News: Injury woes and a return in goal
Zalewski and Zielinski are both sidelined, with the former Napoli midfielder facing a potential two-month absence due to a calf injury. Dimarco and Darmian are also ruled out.
Yann Sommer may reclaim his spot between the posts, replacing Martinez, who has been in excellent form recently. In defence, Bisseck, Acerbi, and Bastoni are expected to start.
Frattesi, Asllani, and Mkhitaryan will play in midfield allowing Barella and Çalhanoğlu some rest ahead of Inter’s key game in Serie A against Atalanta. Up front, with Lautaro experiencing fatigue, Thuram and Taremi will lead the line.
Robin van Persie is unlikely to make significant changes to the team that played in the first leg. Carranza is expected to play as the lone striker, supported by Paixao, Moussa, and Ivanusec. Moder and Smal will pair up in central midfield, while Read returns to the back four.
Inter Milan possible starting lineup:
Sommer; Bisseck, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Frattesi, Asllani, Mkhitaryan, Carlos Augusto; Taremi, Thuram.
Feyenoord possible starting lineup:
Wellenreuther; Read, Beelen, Hancko, Hugo Bueno; Moder, Smal; Hadj Moussa, Paixao, Ivanusec; Carranza.
Match OPTA Stats
- Feyenoord are winless in their last eight away matches against Italian sides in European competition (D3 L5), and haven’t managed to win any of their 12 overall matches there by more than a single goal (W2 D3 L7).
- Inter have won each of their last five home games in the Champions League without conceding a goal, and have kept a clean sheet in each of the last six. The last side to keep seven straight clean sheets at home in the competition was Atlético de Madrid in April 2015 (7), while the last Italian side to do so was Juventus in December 2002 (7).
- Across their 26 away matches in the UEFA Champions League, Feyenoord – who trail by two goals in this tie – have only ever managed one victory by more than a single goal. That victory did come earlier this season, however, beating Benfica 3-1 at the Estádio da Luz in October.
- Feyenoord had just 0.45 expected goals in the first leg against Internazionale; their lowest total in a Champions League match this season. They haven’t failed to score in back-to-back games in the competition since the 2002-03 group stage (three in a row in October 2022).
