Corinthians vs Palmeiras Prediction 1: Entertaining affair

Known as the Derby Paulista, the two clubs based in Sao Paulo will battle it out on Monday for not only bragging rights, but also three key points at both ends of the table. 

Palmeiras are chasing the title, while Corinthians are fighting for survival – but that doesn’t necessarily mean the visitors are going to walk away with the victory.

Despite their current league position, Corinthians have been incredible at home this season, and the main reason why they are still fighting for their place.

They’ve lost just one of their last 25 matches in 90 minutes, which was a narrow 1-0 defeat against league leaders Botafogo back in June. Since that defeat, seven wins have followed, including against Flamengo and Fortaleza.

In their last five league games, Corinthians have scored 16 goals, including five last time out against Athletico PR. They’ve kept just two clean sheets in those games, and Palmeiras head into this contest having put five past Juventude last Monday.

Corinthians vs Palmeiras Prediction 2: Young star to score

Estevao scored to provide us with a 4.33 winner last week against Fortaleza, and it’s difficult to not include him in a game that looks set to produce plenty of goals.

The 17-year-old continues to shine, who is now leading the race for the golden boot with 11 goals – as well as providing eight assists. For those of you who listened, we’re in a good place for our antepost top goalscorer angle.

Sharing penalty duties with Raphael Veiga, the winger has shown time and time again how prolific he is cutting in from the right hand side. 

His unpredictability, as well as the power that he can generate with his left foot is something we’ve not seen before in this league – well, at least not since Neymar.

Similar to last year with Endrick, Estevao is Palmeiras’ saviour, and the Verdao need him to step up if they are to keep their title – but there’s no one else you’d put this much faith in.

Corinthians are slowly getting themselves out of trouble and that is all thanks to their start signing Memphis Depay. The former Manchester United winger has produced two goals and three assists from just his first seven appearances in Brazil – proving how valuable he is at this level.

The Dutch international star has raised not only expectations in the stands, but the performances on the pitch, and there’s no surprise to see Corinthians performing not only in the league, but also the Sudamericana as well.

His free kick against Athletico PR may have been one of the best he’s ever scored, but he’s also stepped up and been responsible from the penalty spot. Not only are defenders giving him more respect in open play, but Depay’s confidence is shining through, and he’s clearly thriving in his new challenge.

With Corinthians so prolific at home, and with Depay at the heart of that, it would be no surprise to see his name back on the scoresheet for their third league game in a row.
