Gremio vs Corinthians Prediction: Team News and Lineups Preview
The Brasileirão wraps up for the season this Sunday, and our South American expert Nathan Joyes has provided his Gremio vs Corinthians prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview.
Both sides have completed what they set out to do at the start of the campaign, and this match might have a friendlier feel than others on Sunday evening. However, both sides only know one way how to play – and this game can spring into life at any given moment.
Gremio vs Corinthians Prediction 1: Goals on the horizon
Brazil, Brazil Serie A, Sunday, December 8th, 19:00 (UK)
It’s been quite the season for both clubs, as the floods heavily disrupted Gremio’s season and put them in an unexpected relegation scrap. However, they’ve fought back bravely, and head into their final match having secured Copa Sudamericana football for 2025.
Corinthians have gone one better. Having flirted with relegation for large parts of the season, their insane form in the final months of the season – as well as the addition of Memphis Depay – skyrocketed Timao into a Copa Libertadores spot.
Both teams will welcome the break, but there’s still three more points to play for – and there’s reason to believe this can be more open than people would expect.
Yuri Alberto has been in scintillating form throughout 2024, and he’s competing with Estevao for the golden boot. Both Brazilians are level on 14 goals, and the 23-year-old will be desperate to claim that title as he looks set to depart for another European adventure.
Of course, Depay’s relationship with Alberto has been one of the main reasons for his success, but Argentine midfielder Rodrigo Garro has been incredible. The 26-year-old has weighed in with 10 goals and 11 assists, and the front trio have proven to be one of the best in the league.
Having scored 15 goals in their last five matches, Corinthians aren’t winding down just yet.
And the same can be said for Gremio. At home, they’ve been scoring for fun. Wins over Fortaleza, Atlético GO and São Paulo, as well as a draw against Juventude, has seen them score 10 and pick up 10 from a possible 12 points.
Bringing in forward Martin Braithwaite was a masterstroke, as the Dane has contributed with eight goals in just 17 league matches. In an attacking 4-4-3 formation, the ex-Barcelona man has been the focal point as Gremio have slowly climbed up the table.
The two sides shared a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture, where both Alberto and Garro were on the scoresheet. A similar scoreline looks entirely realistic.

Gremio vs Corinthians Injuries, Team News and Possible Lineups Prediction: One last dance for Alberto
Corinthians forward Yuri Alberto has announced he wants to move to Europe in the January transfer window and there is likely to be a long queue for the Brazilian forwards. Tied 14 goals with Estevao, the 23-year-old has a great chance to finish the season on a high with the golden boot.
Gremio’s Chilean forward Alexander Aravena won’t be taking part. The 22-year-old came off in the first half against Vitoria midweek, and he’ll likely be replaced by Cristaldo on the right wing.
Gremio possible starting lineup:
Marchesin; Reinaldo, Jemerson, Calo, Pedro, Monsalve, Pepe, Villasanti, Cristaldo, Pavon, Braithwaite
Corinthians possible starting lineup:
Souza; Bidu, Ramalho, Henrique, Franca, Garro, Carrillo, Bidon, Raniele, Depay, Alberto
Match Stats:
- Only five teams have outscored Corinthians (51) after 37 rounds this season.
- Gremio’s last five home matches have produced over 2.5 goals and seen both teams score.
- Corinthians have scored eight in their last five matches on the road.
